Beauty vs Beast: Daughter Dearest
Howdy, folks - Jason from MNPP here with this week's edition of "Beauty vs Beast" is which we'll be celebrating the 61st birthday of the great Debra Winger. I assume most of you, being right and proper actressexuals, have seen the terrific documentary bearing her name Searching For Debra Winger, but if not, get on that. I haven't seen it since it came out in 2002 and part of me wonders if it's maybe, hopefully, begun to feel a bit dated? That film feeling dated can only be a good thing because it means roles for actresses are getting better. If nothing else, Winger herself has been working somewhat steadily over the past few years with recent roles on In Treatment and the Netflix series The Ranch.
All that said, we're really here today for Classic Winger...
PREVIOUSLY Two weeks back we celebrated the sexy time that is A Bigger Splash with a glance back at its original (and also sexy) incarnation, 1969's La Piscine - stuffing the ballot box like he did those speedos, Alain Delon carried off about 80% of your votes. Said Steven:
"Alain Delon>>>>>>>every young pretty boy out there in Hollywood."

"God bless that potential that we all have for making anything possible if we think we deserve it. I deserve to win this poll. Thank you."
Winger's gifts were apparent again in 2008's Rachel Getting Married.
Only thing dated about the documentary are the marriages that ended and some of the women who have died since its release. Hollywood never stopped being a patriarchal white supremacy and the only thing the movie focuses on is the patriarchal part.
Debra Winger is everything.
Winger and MacLaine make something entirely new of the mother/daughter dynamic. Brilliant and enduring work from both. Please don't make me choose.
She was definitely one of my faves of the 80's, along with all the other great women of that era (Streep, Lange, Winger, Turner, Spacek, Field, etc.). Is it just me or were they significantly MORE leading women than now, who were MUCH more interesting than the sparse current crop (Lawrence, Vikander, Larson, Mara)? I have bias but I think YES.
This MNBC video is perfect summation from Winger of why she did not go further:

She is a great lady.
How is Aurora winning? And on Debra's birthday? Do you not remember Emma breaking hearts at the grocery checkout or saying goodbye to her kids? Vote for Debra.
@Jono I feel the same way as you about leading ladies in the 80s. Besides, I find the likes of Vikander and Larson rather bland. And I'm not afraid to say I was rooting for Debra Winger to win the Oscar for An Officer and A Gentleman (over Streep) back then. Debra Winger is my goddess.
@Murtada Elfadl
I think votes are about their Oscar preference.
Aurora is winning because Shirley MacLaine is one of the great screen actresses but somehow doesn't seem to get enough credit. Also because I voted for her on each of my electronic devices.
"Give my daughter THE SHOT (to win this poll)!"
Maybe actresses today have to be bland because the cookie cutter movie industry now demands it? And there are less because they make less movies starring women. And I am still aghast now whenever I see an Oscar winner (like Vikander) selling handbags in print ads, or doing commercials or random paid appearances for her "brand."
Suzanne - i love you.
Aww, I'm blushing! <g>
