Variety Whoa. Daniel Day Lewis is going back to work. And with Paul Thomas Anderson again no less. They're making a 50s fashion drama
/Film shares concept art from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4... which obviously never went before cameras

Salon Actor Jake Choi on the odds against Asian actors especially the "de-sexualized" men
LA Times 100 people who could help fix Oscar's diversity problem. I'd be surprised though if at least a few of these people weren't already in the Academy since they've been nominated or close to it. The ultra strange thing is they don't list Bradford Young, one of the very best working DPs, under cinematography and I didn't think he was a member yet. Is it just a terrible oversight or did his invitation skip my notice?
AV Club a new Melissa McCarthy produced series Nobodies will be very meta. It stars her non famous comic actor friends playing themselves with a famous movie star friend (no word on who will play the Melissa McCarthy surrogate)
Towleroad Colton Haynes is working on a photo book with Tyler Shields. He promises it will be "shocking". So... the unauthorized sequel to Madonna's "Sex" book, maybe?
The Guardian a good piece on reshoots for upcoming movies and the danger of "dark" or "light" templates for franchises

Adequate Man "Please do not lick your kitty"

Emmy Season is Upon Us...
Awards Daily is wondering if Scandal can make an Emmy comeback
Decider comedies the Emmys need to consider

...and for the following year's Emmys we even have a Children's Programming contender worth getting excited about: JULIE ANDREWS IS BACK IN 2017!

"(Paul Thomas) Anderson is still working on a script while meeting young actresses of Eastern European descent to cast supporting roles." Is there going to be any role of substance in this film for a woman over 40? Just wondering.

May -- it's so strange. when he started he seemed like he was going to be a great director of women (hard eight, boogie nights, magnolia) and then he just kinda lost interest in ensembles and his movies started being more typically structured around ONE MAN. It's a tough break for actress lovers cuz he didn't turn into the next Altman like he was promising at first.

Still, he's got that STELLAR performance from Emily Watson in Punch-Drunk Love. I love her so much in that movie.

But let me tell you something: he was never going to be a new Altman, in spite of Boogie Nights and Magnolia. Those movies were very controlled, with those travellings and fierce editing. Altman is loose, relaxed, not that tight.

He directed Altman storied like he was remaking Goodfellas.

Curiously, his most Altman movie is Inherent Vice.

I guess we're going to have substantial roles for women. You can't make a fashion drama without women, can you?

Ahhhh...Julie! Best news of the week.

Anderson was unable to use his children in The Master because their biracial appearance did not fit any period references of the era. However, biracial models did exist even in the 50's usually passing for white or exotic. This opens the door for a small character arc for the mother of his children Maya Rudolph.

I see Julianne Moore returning. And I really want a part for Kathy Bates. She could be a seamstress or a fashion critic. The possibilities for this are grand. But the cold and unfortunate reality is someone like Jennifer Lawrence or Streep being cast to fuck up the beauty of alternate and correct casting.

@/3rtful

At least Meryl would work with a great director again.

June 3, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSonja

Based on the whole idea of Rhino and MYSTERIO showing up to confirm that "yeah, they aren't even going to get Henchmen roles in any of these"? Nope. Oh, we needed a Spider-Man 4 more than we needed the TASM reboot franchise, but we didn't need Sam Raimi's version OF Spider-Man 4 that badly.

June 3, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

"She could be a seamstress." Dream big my darling. Streep just worked with Stephen Frears.

June 3, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJono

@Jono

Frears can be a hit&miss, but his films with a female lead are working the best (@Oscars).
It's also looking way better than Miss Hendersons Prsesents already and even that got Oscar noms.

Talking about Kathy Bates. I don't know if the Grapes of Wrath remake will be a film or a television event, but Bates MUST play Ma Joad and win an Oscar or an Emmy in the process!

June 4, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMarcos

@Marcos

The rumor is Ma Joad will be played by Meryl Streep via Steven Spielberg's request.

Good News Nathaniel! Bradford Young was invited to join the Academy in 2014!

We've got a source saying that Amy Heckerling was a member as far back as 1992. We're not sure if that means she left at some point, or if the Times just got it wrong. But other than her, we haven't been able to find anything that suggests that any of the other people on their list have been invited yet.

June 5, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNeverTooEarlyMP

Damn shame about Spider-Man 4. Raimi had an excellent grasp on the tone of that series.
