Brangelina No More
Vox looks at the parallels between Liz & Dick and Brangelina
EW Madame Tussaud's already separated Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's wax counterparts. Nathaniel wept. (Seriously, I'm not doing okay with this. I don't care if anyone thinks its silly. Double star wattage couples of this magnitude happen only a few times a century.)
Slate ranks the remaining A list power couples

Brangelina, smack dab in the middle of their storied romance

Liz and Dick were only divorced for 16 months before they got back together so if I may put in an early request for 2018 Wishes. Lots more (and not just Brad & Angie) after the jump.

/Film wasn't expecting this - Clive Owen has made another short film as "The Driver" for BMW after 15 years without out. This one is directed by Neill Blomkamp

Post TIFF Blues
Cinemablographer I totally co-sign this post which rakes TIFF over the coals for their new anti-audience policy of surge-pricing (so antithetical to TIFF's general character) -- well, I co-sign it up to the point where Nocturnal Animals is named second best of the fest and then I vomited
TFE ...because I hate that movie (icmyi)
Girish lists his favorites too including the only film I walked out on: A Quiet Passion. To be fair I didn't walk out because I thought it was going to be bad (though Terence Davies is hit and miss with me) but because I knew I was way too tired to make it through. That said I found the first 5 minutes distractingly acted like the girls had just come out of their trailers in 2016 to film a scene set in, like, 1846. (I hate it when that happens.)

Videos To Go
When people use their fame beautifully, for a good cause. And with good jokes! Register to vote. (Well done famous people, well done). Especially you Joss Whedon (who directed) and familiar Whedonites like Tom Lenk!

Oh... and... Lady Gaga is back. I think I love this (?) but Matthew Rettenmund is right when he points out that Lady Gaga's dancing is totally Cyndi Lauper-esque.

I'm never cared about celebrity relationships, but yesterday's news surprised me and saddened me a little as well.

No surprise here... only one laughing is probably Aniston...

That Slate article exemplifies just how much of a power movie couple Brangelina were. I mean besides Beyonce / Jay-Z (who aren't movie stars) and the Obamas (who aren't entertainers), the closest thing on that list is Fassbender and Vikander!

September 21, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterRami

Tom Lenk!

September 21, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterCorey

to that slate article,
penelope cruz and javier bardem exist no?

September 21, 2016 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

Fassbender/Vikander should be ranked lower than (test-of-time factor) Cruz/Bardem, Pratt/Faris, Mullally/Offerman, Vance/Bassett, Ellen/Portia, Zeta Jones/Douglas, even Mann/Apatow.

Joss Whedon is back! He was missed.

Re: Vox article striving for Brangelina and LizNDick similarities: "Like Brangelina, Burton and Taylor were already in committed marriages when they met, and spent a significant amount of time fighting their connection because of it." Wasn't Jolie divorced from Billy Bob at least a year before she met Brad Bob?

Also, calling Burton's serial adultery all through his marriage to Sybil and Liz' mind-numbing boredom that was her marriage to Eddie Fisher "committed marriages" is a real stretch...

I'm really confused about why/how Catherine Zeta Jones/Michael Douglas, Annette Bening/Warren Beatty, Javier Bardem/Penelope Cruz are not on on that top 10 power couples list, especially considering some of the other people are on it. And yes, Fassbender/Vikander should not count until they've been together long enough that they're actually walking red carpets together. Considering he's never had a relationship last longer than two years, the jury is still out on them.

Also, I'm hoping the demise of Brangelina flushes out the Cotillard/Canet dirt and drags a few other Hollywood/European stars with them.

Upon the news on the end of Brangelina, this is what Jennifer Aniston was doing once the news broke:

BRANGELINA IS OVAH!!!!! IT HAS BEEN.... DELETED!!!!! DELETE, DELETE, DELETE, DELETE, DELETE!!!!!!!

Boy, that Slate list sure needs a "vetitor" who lives in the real world (i.e. outside NYC or LA). Seriously, never heard of Hillary & Bill Clinton? Faith Hill & Tim McGraw? Not to mention other actual, long-time marrieds like Annette Bening & Warren Beatty, Helen Mirren & Taylor Hackford, etc. Or Rachel Weisz & Daniel Craig? Penélope Cruz & Javier Barden? Eva Mendes & Ryan Gosling? (Can people who only recently started dating be considered a "power couple" anyway? [Hello, Hiddleswift!] I'd lump Sarah Paulson & Holland Taylor and maybe Michael Fassbender & Alicia Vikander into that camp.)

Also, I get that Ina & Jeffrey Garten was tongue-in-cheek, but what average person even knows who Jason Jones or Jack Antonoff are? (Hell, I'd put Miranda Kerr & Evan Spiegel before either of them). And Amal Clooney and Michelle Obama are the very definition of "The Power Couple Is Really One Power Spouse Carrying the Other" since neither would be a household name without her husband (not discounting their personal achievements in any way, but that's a fact).

RIP, Brangelina!

I would rather see Tucci's dick. Nice try, but I think people who don't vote are perfectly aware of what they're doing. They just don't want to. In many Europeans countries you don't have to register and the abstention rates are also high.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were the king and queen of the movie industry. Truly the end of an era. I was so shocked. And given Jay-Z's alleged infidelities as well, I wouldn't be surprised if Beyoncé leaves him even after forgiving him in Lemonade. If the most iconic music and movie couples break up, is there even a chance for love for the rest of us?

September 22, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterbeyaccount

beyaccount: Yes.

The king and queen of the movie industry? She hasn't been in a good movie since the '90s.
