Beauty Break: A National Treasure in National Parks

Brad Pitt recently opened up to GQ in a lengthy interview about divorce, drinking, therapy, and his new film War Machine. Interviews like this, which get so personal, are always a a bit of a strange experience if you love movie stars. Should you voraciously read everything about your favorite stars or let the work speak for itself and give their mystique some space to work?

I've never sold that question for myself so I read lengthy profiles/interviews quite erratically.

But one thing that offers pleasure without any such confusion is looking at photos of beautiful stars. So here are some gorgeous pictures of National Treasure Brad Pitt in three of our National Parks, along with a few key quotes from the interviews. Did you know what Brad's favorite among his own films is? It's not what I expected.

On staying with a sculptor friend...

So you're making stuff?
Yeah, I'm making stuff. It's something I've wanted to do for ten years.

Like what? What are you working with?
I'm making everything. I'm working with clay, plaster, rebar, wood. Just trying to learn the materials. You know, I surprise myself. But it's a very, very lonely occupation. There's a lot of manual labor, which is good for me right now. A lot of lugging clay around, chopping and moving and cleaning up after yourself. But I surprise myself. Yesterday I wasn't settled. I had a lotta chaotic thoughts—trying to make sense of where we are at this time—and the thing I was doing wasn't controlled and balanced and perfect. It came out chaotic. I find vernacular in what you can make, rather than giving a speech. I find voice there, that I need.

He's been feeling a little indifferent about his acting career lately, obviously...

When is the acting still exciting?
I would say more in comedic stuff, where you're taking gambles. I can turn out the hits over and over and I just—my favorite movie is the worst-performing film of anything I've done, The Assassination of Jesse James. If I believe something is worthy, then I know it will be worthy in time to come. And there are times I get really cynical, you know. I spend a lot of time on design and even this sculpture folly I'm on, I have days when—it all ends up in the dirt anyways: What's the point? So I go through that cycle, too, you know? What's the point?

On his split from Jolie...

If you ended up in court, it would be a spectacular nightmare.
Spectacular. I see it everywhere. Such animosity and bitterly dedicating years to destroying each other. You'll be in court and it'll be all about affairs and it'll be everything that doesn't matter. It's just awful, it looks awful. One of my favorite movies when it came out was There Will Be Blood, and I couldn't figure out why I loved this movie, I just loved this movie, besides the obvious talent of Paul T. and, you know, Daniel Day. But the next morning I woke up, and I went, Oh, my God, this whole movie is dedicated to this man and his hatred. It's so audacious to make a movie about it, and in life I find it just so sickening. I see it happen to friends—I see where the one spouse literally can't tell their own part in it, and is still competing with the other in some way and wants to destroy them and needs vindication by destruction, and just wasting years on that hatred. I don't want to live that way.

I like Brad but he seems really wan and incoherent. I hope he pulls it together.

He deserves an acting Oscar and a Thalberg for Plan B producing Oscar's first two black Best Picture winners.

i thought the interview was really fascinating and was impressed that the interviewer got him to open up so honestly. especially since he usually remains fairly opaque.

no man on earth who has a torso that looks like that has any right to have that much natural acting talent as well. he's a genuine unicorn.

wtf is he talking about?. Stick to acting and leave the rambling interviews alone.

Loved Pitt in Thelma & Louise but all of his projects beyond have disappointed me...

Brad is my all time favourite actor, but this whole thing is a mess. His publicist needs to be fired. So badly mis-judged. He's obviously going through a bad time, who the hell let this happen? The styling is awful. The content is painful. Such a mis-fire.

The entire photoshoot could be outtakes from Lemonade feat. Brad Pitt, to be honest. The pictures in the post could represent "Hold Up", "6 Inch", "Pray You Catch Me" and "Freedom" respectively.

Gurl, take off your Annette Bening Beer Goggles. He looks terrible.

Always liked him still like him.

Just with Nicolde Kidman, I have to avoid any Interviews with Brad Pitt. They always come off as extremely shallow and without any connection to the real world.

A quick reminder that his production company and especially Dede Gardner produced "12 Years A Slave", "Selma" and "Moonlight". Really looking forward to "Ojka"

Nathaniel, you should set up a store on this site and sell Annette Bening Beer Goggles...I will buy them.

Cannot decide what is funnier - the photos or him really coming off like he is one of the dudes in Zoolander

May 6, 2017 | Unregistered Commentersati

SoSue -- OOH, great suggestion

Adam -- anyone who thinks Brad Pitt looks terrible EVER should quickly schedule an optometrist appt. He's older now, sure, but aint nothing wrong with aging.

Some of the pictures are ridiculous but I enjoyed the interview; A little more open than your usual celebrity profile but interesting nonetheless. He's obviously working through a lot of things and it's great to hear that he still has a (somewhat) positive outlook.

He's certainly never rested on pretty. I'm rooting for him.

Brad Pitt is one of the finest men ever and a great (underrated) character actor. And I actually love most of the styling in the shoot and the natural scenery is quite beautiful.

But that interview was a MESS. Yikes. And it's not entirely his fault, because those questions from the interviewer were terrible too (I noticed at the bottom of the article that this was the journalist's first assignment from GQ. It shows). Just a bunch of pseudo-intellectual, incoherent, jumble.

Is he basically admitting both he and Angelina had affairs? What was the point of them being together and adopting too many children? Braddie Dearest

May 6, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterEva

Pitt is certainly easy on the eyes ( still is ) , as for the interview , unnecessary and sometimes unintentionally funny in a bad way ( the dude clearly has lots of issues, who hasn`t though ?) , as for his career, he`s been lucky to be surrounded by people like David Fincher , Tarantino, Gilliam,Dominik, I really love him in Babel ( what Inarritu cannot do ?,The man is a force of nature)...but when far from these great directors he`s more of an eye candy and we realize he does not have that much of acting chops ( Cruise , Scientology and all is a far better actor), so yeah Brad, let`s focus on comedies like Burn After Reading , you were fun in it.
