23 days til Oscar!

The only (current) 23 year-old in the world who is also an Oscar-nominated actor if not this year

Can you believe we're less than a month from Hollywood's High Holy Night? Since today's magic number is 23, we're sharing a gallery of beauties related to that number starting with Timothée Chalamet. Now, he didn't make this year's Oscar list despite precursor attention for Beautiful Boy but he is still the only current 23 year-old who can claim the title "Oscar-Nominated Actor". Please enjoy this photo gallery of other number 23 related beauties after the jump...

Glynis Johns, the greatest still-living actor who was born in '23. She turns 96 this year. Where is her Honorary Oscar? We think The Sundowners (Oscar nomination), Mary Poppins (iconic role), While You Were Sleeping and The Ref (late career Oscar-nom worthy hilarity) and her early gorgeous/funny star turns (The Court Jester, Mad About Men, Miranda) warrant it.

Screencaps from the 23rd minute of Black Panther featuring those awesome Ruth E Carter costumes, the historic Production Design (first black woman ever nominated in the category), and Chadwick Boseman's royal nipples.

Two of the most popular films released in '23. Love those old posters. Look at that CRAZY green lighting on the stone tablets for the Cecil B DeMille silent epic (which he'd remake for the thrilling 7 time Oscar nominated technicolor classic in 1956). Also dig that "It's a Universal" at the bottom of the Hunchback poster. Just about the only studio people might use as that kind of descriptor today is "Pixar"

The six 23 year-old actors besides Timothée Chalamet that we're most excited about currently (pictured from left to right but in no particular order): Quinn Shephard (Blame, The Miseducation of Cameron Post), Shameik Moore (Into the Spider-Verse, Dope), Haley Lu Richardson (Split, Support the Girls), Luke Benward (Dumplin', Life of the Party), Sasha Lane (American Honey, The Miseducation of Cameron Post), and Israel's Shira Haas (Princess, The Zookeeper's Wife).

A few stills showcasing the genius of 23-time Oscar-nominated art director Hal Pereira. His classics include but our not limited to Vertigo, Hud, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Ten Commandments, Roman Holiday, The Nutty Professor, Gunfight at the OK Corral, and many more. Our much-missed series "The Furniture" by Daniel Walber wrote about his work twice: Come Blow Your Horn (1963) and The Oscar (1966).

Nicole Kidman's 23rd movie. Can you name it? Better yet, have you seen it?

Person who will probably reach 23 acting nominations in the 2020s.

Julia Roberts was 23 when she was nominated for Pretty Woman.

Luke Benward is only 23? Man, he looks like he's 30. Must be the hairiness.

Released 23 years ago this month: Trainspotting. That's 23 years of Ewan McGregor. Where's HIS Oscar?

February 1, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterHustler

He was absolutely first rate in Beautiful Boy but it was embarassing watching him out act Steve Carrell, what was he doing in that film.

Nicole's 23rd was Birthday Girl with Ben Chaplin

Kidman's 23rd movie featured fine character work from her but overall the film was far too low key to make an impression. It was an odd film to land smack in the middle of the height of her career.

Absolutely on board for an Honorary Oscar for Glynis Johns. An enchanting creature who was always wonderful.

Even before she hit her stride with Miranda and The Court Jester she made some really wonderful English films-Encore, The Great Manhunt, An Ideal Husband among them-which are worth tracking down. Get on it Academy!!!

Birthday Girl - set in St Albans, where I'm from, lol.

/3rtful -- Julia is 51 years old. Timothee Chalamet is the only 23 year old on the planet who is an Oscar nominated actor (closest to him is Saoirse Ronan but she's 24.)

Hustler --ooh good one. Where is even his first Oscar nomination!

February 1, 2019 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

I don't understand your response to me? Julia Roberts was 23 when she was nominated for Pretty Woman. That counts.

February 1, 2019 | Unregistered Commenter/3rtful

I saw Birthday Girl a long time ago but I remember he being so damned good in it.

/3rtful -- Nat means Timmy is the only actor who is 23 years old RIGHT THIS MINUTE, who has also been nominated for an Oscar -- Julia was nominated when she was 23 but she is not 23 right this minute

February 1, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterJason

/3rtful. This isn't complicated. Timothee Chalamet is the only 23 year old on the planet who can call himself an Oscar nominee. Nobody else who has been Oscar nominated is currently 23 years of age. He's the only Oscar nominee born in 1995. (several actresses besides Julia were nominated when they were 23 but they're all older now or dead)

February 1, 2019 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

Nat, actually the closest is Abigail Breslin who'll turn 23 in April.

February 1, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterJoe

Do you think Ruth E. Carter will win the Oscar? I'm concerned they'll go with something more traditional.

February 1, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

Chalamet did paper-thin character work for Beautiful Boy. The fact that people considered that performance to be in contention must be because the character was an addict? Or leftover love from his Call me by your name? It was very strained in the dramatic scenes and one-note in general, as if he felt he needed to always hint at the fact he was in tremendous pain, which the film doesn't really solve. It's a very badly edited and scripted movie with that same sense of seriousness hovering above it. Carrell also did poor work, making obvious choices all around. A non-factor, really.

/3rtful is simply pointing out another 23’ themed Oscar fact - he is not challenging the chalemet fact.
Chill guys!

February 1, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterMatt

Oscar nominated Lucas Hedges will be 23 in December, 2019.

February 1, 2019 | Unregistered Commenterbrandz

Some of y’all need to learn how to read. Got damn.

February 1, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterTeppo2

Lol at you guys not getting it. It’s not who is closest to being 23...
It’s who is 23 NOW

February 1, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterDAVID

This is a fake, holding comment...

February 1, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterRobUK

...because this is now the 23rd comment!

Take that, Timmy.

Matt, for pointing out the over the top reaction to a tangentially related fact /3rtful wrote that would be passed over if written by any other commenter (and they usually are), Condragulations, you are the winner of this week’ Challenge.
