"Oh, Moses, Moses. You stubborn, splendid, adorable fool."

by Nathaniel R

It's 120 days until the Oscars. So for today's random number celebration let's talk Moses! According to the Bible he lived to be 120 years old. The most famous Moses film is inarguably The Ten Commandments (1956). We always forget that Charlton Heston wasn't actually Oscar-nominated for playing Moses in that now camp classic despite the film receiving seven Oscar nods including a Best Picture citation. Curiously and conversely, the film's only Golden Globe nomination was in Best Actor, Drama for Charlton Heston. How about that?

10 random things that happened on this day (October 5th) in showbiz history...

1923 The great Oscar nominated and Tony-winning actress Glynis Johns (Miranda, Mary Poppins, The Court Jester, The Sundowners, The Ref) born in South Africa. The picture to the left is at the Tony Awards in 1974.  She turns 97 years old today. Happy birthday, Sister Suffragette! Glynis is currently the fifth oldest living Oscar nominee

1945 A strike by set decorators turns into a riot "Blood Friday" at Warner Brothers studios. Aren't you glad Daniel's series "The Furniture" on the work of production designers and set decorators is back? I missed it so much when it went on hiatus.

1946 The very first Cannes film festival wraps up...

Yul Brynner Centennial: "The Ten Commandments"

by Eric Blume

Back in the day, Cecil B. DeMille’s epic The Ten Commandments received an annual Easter airing in network prime-time, much the way The Wizard of Oz and other family classics would be broadcast annually with much fanfare, delivering consistently high ratings each year (remember:  only three network options!).  I feel like I saw The10Cs multiple times when I was a little kid, each year mesmerized by its massive sweep, colossal size, and amazing special effects.

Revisiting the film for the first time as an adult, in honor of Yul Brynner’s Centennial, wowza is it a howler...

23 days til Oscar!

The only (current) 23 year-old in the world who is also an Oscar-nominated actor if not this year

Can you believe we're less than a month from Hollywood's High Holy Night? Since today's magic number is 23, we're sharing a gallery of beauties related to that number starting with Timothée Chalamet. Now, he didn't make this year's Oscar list despite precursor attention for Beautiful Boy but he is still the only current 23 year-old who can claim the title "Oscar-Nominated Actor". Please enjoy this photo gallery of other number 23 related beauties after the jump...

Showbiz History: Wrecking Balls, Two Commandments, and Makeup & Hair Nods

8 random things that happened on this day (November 23rd) in showbiz history

1923 Cecil B DeMille's The Ten Commandments premieres. He would of course remake it as the infinitely better-remembered 1956 camp? technicolor classic of the same name.

1934 Romantic drama The Painted Veil starring Greta Garbo and Herbert Marshall opens in movie theaters. It's later remade (quite well!) in 2006 with Naomi Watts and Edward Norton.
