Backstage and in the Audience at the Oscars
One of the most indelible images we saw on sunday night was Tom hanks and Charlize Theron leading the audience in a chant of "Up, Up" to bring back the Parasite crew to finish their best picture acceptance speeches. But there were many other moments backstage and in the audience that we weren't captured by the TV cameras. Here are a few:
Margot Robbie chatting with Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson...
Spike Lee clapping for Joker's Hildur Gudnadóttir after she won...
Olivia Colman congratulating Bong Joon Ho as she prepares to present best actor
Bong was also popular in the audience, seen here with Kathy Bates
Big win, big hug... Regina King and Brad Pitt
Jane Fonda cupping Joaquin Phoenix's cheek as Colman looks on
(we talk about this moment on the podcast, coming soon)
What photos have you seen from the big night that you liked?

Are King and Pitt old friends? They seemed super chummy
If you look closely at the video Rita Wilson was the first to lead the chant, then Tom and Charlize joined in. She’s a badass.
That cupping picture !
Slap him Jane. “Snap out of it”!
Worth remembering considering that they were so friendly that Pitt was one of the producers of Beale Street, so they probably know each other outside of awards shows.
one of my favorite things about the oscars is during actor/actress wins when the winner, en route to the stage, is embraced by a totally random person near them.
when lupita won, liza ran across the aisle and hugged her, and this year, when renee won, she gave not one but two cheek kisses to antonio, who happened to sit next to her guest. it was amazing!
Scarlett & Margot in a movie together? Would love a good family drama with these two...!
Where is the photo of the four acting winners? Too white, Academy?
There's a video of Jane, Phoenix and also Martin Sheen recently speaking in a demonstration against climate change. I was wondering if he'd be a no-show due to having been arrested and Jane had been several times too. Fortunately, both of them were present. Parasite winning and Phoenix delivering a speech for the times (also the Bafta one) are signs of our times and change being afoot.
Unless we hear directly from Laura Dern that she refused to pose for a picture with Phoenix, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the reason for no foursome photo is probably something both mundane and slightly embarrassing, like Dern stuck on the John. Stars are real people.
