/Film Mulan will be rated PG-13, a first for Disney's remakes
AV Club we can't imagine the character of "Doc Savage" has much IP value at this time but Hollywood craves recognition factor even in small doses so they're developing a TV series around the bronzed hero
MUBI what's the meaning of Bong Joon Ho's Oscar triumph? More discussion about the possibilities now

Ewan as Halston. The miscast of the decade?

February 20, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy Sue

Peggy Sue: Ewan's a dynamic actor with more range than he's given credit for, pretty close in terms of face to the actual guy, AND the decade has just started, so it's pretty hasty to stake that title now.

I adore Ewan but he's wrong for the part. It should have been Armie or Matt Bomer.

Do we think Jennifer Lawrence will have a lasting career or were her 4 Oscar nods an incredible career roll never to be repeated again? I’m interested in what happens to her, Ive never seen that level of massive popularity before.

I'm surprised that I have read practically nothing about the fact that the same feat was nearly attained by Rome last year. This was a radical change in the making. It was bound to happen as soon as a foreign-language masterpiece was released in the US.

Peggy's right. Ewan has a certain rudeness that Halston never had. Also, I don't understand what he's doing with his hand.

Lawrence like all hot of the moment actresses needed to go away and recoup so we could miss her, she's a major talent.

Luke, thank you for not hiding!

Ben, you look REALLY good in this movie, for several reasons. I'll be there!

Book of Ruth sounds wonderful. A really important story to tell here.

Lucky - You must be too young to remember Julia Roberts in her heyday; in the early '90s, she was as popular as JLaw, although she had fewer Oscar noms. Like Julia, I think JLaw will be around as long as she wants. I'm intrigued by her A24 drama with Bryan Tyree Henry.

Julia Roberts was 100 times more popular than Jennifer Lawrence. You can even compare them. Even my granny saw Pretty Woman. Kathleen Turner was more popular than Jennifer Lawrence and we didn't have twitter or any other shit.

Nathaniel -- speaking of gay stuff, thank you for your advocacy for And Then We Danced. Because of your raves, I prioritized seeing this week and LOVED IT!!!

jules: Julia Roberts is independently popular, though. What does Jeniffer Lawrence have if she's not the muse of a current Oscar mega-favourite? As for the movie, it does sound interesting, though also a little "Michael Moore has to cameo in this." Why? A movie called Red, White and Water NOT being set in Flint, Michigan? I have no idea where else it would be set.

rdf - I envy you watching In the Mood for Love for the first time. It’s in my top ten of all time.

February 21, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterPam

Let's remember that all 3 of Lawrence's Oscar noms during her "roll" in the 2010's were in O. Russell films. Once that partnership halted, it seemed so did her roll. I'm sure people might blame "Mother!" and "Serena" too, but it's about the films she's not making now, not the ones she is.
