Oscar Ceremony: The Presenters

by Murtada Elfadl

Today the Academy and the show's producers Lynette Howell Taylor and Stephanie Allain announced the latest batch of presenters: Jane Fonda, Josh Gad, Tom Hanks, Oscar Isaac, Sandra Oh, Natalie Portman, Chris Rock and Taika Waititi.

We are especially excited to see Fonda...

She last presented best actor with Helen Mirren to Gary Oldman for Darkest Hour 2 years ago and before that best director with Michael Douglas to Ang Lee for Life of Pi in 2013.

This year’s producers have already done one thing right. They are bringing back the tradition of having the previous year’s Oscar-winning actors on stage to celebrate this year’s nominees. Mahershala Ali, Olivia Colman, Regina King and Rami Malek are all confirmed to present.

Other presenters include Utkarsh Ambudkar, Zazie Beetz, Timothée Chalamet, James Corden, Penélope Cruz, Beanie Feldstein, Will Ferrell, Gal Gadot, Zack Gottsagen, Salma Hayek, Mindy Kaling, Diane Keaton, Shia LaBeouf, Brie Larson, Spike Lee, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, George MacKay, Steve Martin, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Anthony Ramos, Keanu Reeves, Ray Romano, Maya Rudolph, Mark Ruffalo, Kelly Marie Tran, Sigourney Weaver, Kristen Wiig and Rebel Wilson.

Reeves with Sandra Bullock at the 2006 ceremony

Some are here because they have upcoming movies they want to promote. Like Downhill with Louis-Dreyfus and Ferrell, Wonder Woman 1984 with Gadot and Wiig and In the Heights with Miranda and Ramos. There are some from best picture nominees: Beetz, Chalamet, MacKay and Wilson. Plus the usual mix of stars. However this might not be everybody, last year Julia Roberts was never announced as a presenter prior to the ceremony. Yet she had the honor of opening the last envelope of the night and saying "Green Book."

Pedro Almodovar already let it slip at the Goyas that Cruz is presenting International Feature. Though it's unlikely that she'll be calling out his name like in 1999. Care to guess other categories and pairings?

Calling it now: Either Fonda, Keaton or Hanks (or some combo of those three or ALL THREE) will present Best Picture.

producers everywhere: stop. encouraging. rebel. wilson.

My wish list for Best Picture presenters

1. Jane Fonda and Jon Voight reuniting for the 50th anniversary of their wins as Best Actress and Actor for Coming Home.

2. A combination of De Niro, Streep and/or Walken for the 50th anniversary win of The Deer Hunter for Best Picture.

3. Tom Hanks and Sally Field reuniting for the 25th anniversary of Best Picture winner Forrest Gump.

Justice for Kelly Marie Tran.

But Coming Home and The Deer Hunter's wins were 41 years ago, in 1979...

Math was never my strength. Rather, Best Picture presenters would be Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight reuniting for the 50th anniversary of Best Picture winner Midnight Cowboy.

Alongside the pairings you said,
I would imagine:

Cruz & Hayek
Gottsagen & LaBeouf
Isaac & Tran
Larson & Ruffalo
Wilson & Waititi

Has Meryl ever presented Best Picture? If not, she would be an obvious (and deserving) choice.

Me in 1998: I can't wait to see what the women wear!

Me in 2020: I can't wait to see what Timothee Chalamet wears!

I hope Jane Fonda presents Best Picture. Is what she deserves.

Jane for BP.

I wish/hope Sigourney is presenting Best Picture.

Chalamet really should present costumes, while wearing something spectacular, obviously.

February 6, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterScottC

Glenn Close should be presenting Best Picture.

It’s strange to me that meryl never presented best picture , in fact as I remmember she has only presented competitive oscar twice! The one to day lewis in 2012 and the cinematography to
la la land In 2016 with bardem , maybe she doesn’t want to present !

I think nicole kidman would be a perfect choice to present best picture she’s famous , popular and respected enough and maybe more than enough

I just hope it’s not hanks , I love him but he have presented twice before.

Rdf is so patently wrong with this rude and unnecessary comment that I must alert Nathaniel that one of the jerks/imposters/whatever must be up to their old tricks again.

The Hollywood Reporter put out another brutally honest ballot. I love reading those but dear god are they disheartening. The woman interviewed is so out of touch, so uniformed and xenophobic.

I do not care for Randalph. But I never say impolite comments. There enough here to do that.

February 6, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterRdf

@ Arlo

Bottom line: her vote ended up in the 1917 column.

Jane Fonda for BP please!!!! Someone stop Rebel Wilson. Didn´t they invite J-Lo?

February 6, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

Tom and Sally together would be great for Best Picture.

However, I think we need more women presenting on their own. I would love to see Jane present on her own.

I can't see Jane Fonda agreeing to share the stage with far right white supremacist trump lover John Voight. And I am sure the producers will be reading the riot act to all presenters NOT to say anything bad about the recently acquitted - NOT EXONERATED - orange one. God help the entire world if this monster gets 4 more years.

@Bette Streep-Agreed. Fuck that asshole. Jon Voight can suck my dick. Fucking racist piece of shit.

Just imagine the big shocker, if AMPAS did as LAFCA... Picture for Parasite and International for Pain and Glory
