Curio: Movie-Loving Face Masks

Curated by Nathaniel R

Here's a PSA for you. Since we've rebooted the Curio column, dedicated to movie art, we figured we should point out that you can have your art on your PPE. Face masks are the new norm, so here's  a way to make this uncomfortable reality a little more fun and tolerable. Show off your fandom...

fans wearing masks from Alejandro Mogollo's shop

from Alejandro Mogollo

The first masks above are all from one of our favourite artists Alejandro Mogollo and you can buy them from his Redbubble store

But we can't let Alejandro have all the fun as much as we adore him. Here are some other movie-themed masks from other artists/shops. Click on these photos to be taken to the various shops!

And there's lots more to choose from 'round the web.  Here's a cheeky bit of morbid Alien franchise humor to send us on our social distancing way...

Love these....but who would want one to look like Minelli???????

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterRdf

RDF -- lol. The Minnelli mask is the one I bought ;)

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterNATHANIEL R

oddly enough the one I would like to have, is not movie (yet) related but comic-book, based upon the Marvel character Warlock (and Douglock) as a tech-virus infected skin (been thinking in using that circuit pattern as tattoo, also).

There is an artist that is making some cool ones with his gay-bear themed drawings and characters, you can check him out at @bobobearart at Instagram or google him up.No, he's not paying me but I think his art is quite cute.

These are so fucking cool!!!

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterNick T

@Nathaniel: That Minnelli mask (with the line from Cabaret) is one of the grimmest, most ironic things one could wear in these times...

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterColin

The new Fashion.

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered Commentermarkgordonuk

These are great love the Minelli!

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJaragon

So sorry,Nat. I just do not care for her.

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterRdf

There's a great John Waters face-mask (with his noted pencil stache) that the Baltimore bookshop Atomic Books is selling on their website -- Waters himself endorsed it and wore it around

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJason

I'll take the Facehugger and the Nic Cage masks.

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered Commenterthevoid99

Are we kicking the guy out who doesn't like Minelli?

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterDan Humphrey

Okay. I'm stumped. To what film does "this face is clean" allude?

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterDaniella Isaacs

In the original Poltergeist.Tangina says "This house is clean" after getting rid of some meddlesome spooks.

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered Commentermarkgordonuk

"Alien" facehugger my favorite.

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterManny

Thanks, Mark. I just saw POLTERGEIST again last year, but I never would have gotten that.

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterDaniella Isaacs

Wow, I thought the second one was Melissa McCarthy... Eek.

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJonathan

The guy who does not like Minelli has every right to voice an opinion

she is a pathetic has been who only was for a few years.

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterRDF

So RDF is defending Rdf. Admit it. You're the same person. Anyhoo, it seems clear to me that Dan's post was meant as a good-natured joke. You, and the other Rdf, have to know that insulting people like Minnelli (why is everyone misspelling her name?) in a gay-heavy group like this is borderline heresy. What next? Are you, or the other Rdf, gonna insult Bette Davis next?

Anyway, relax. Nobody's gonna get kicked out. Unless you say something bad about Judy. Then you're both goners.

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterDaniella Isaacs

I had already told myself that I had more than enough masks and to stop buying more... then you posted this and now all of a sudden I have eight movie goddess masks (well, seven goddesses but Liz Taylor twice) on the way. Thanks a lot, Nathaniel πŸ˜‚

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterDoug

I just paid for seven, myself. You should ask for a commission, Nathanial.

June 1, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterDan Humphrey

Danielle .... I am not pretending to be anyone.... sometimes I use lower case and sometimes upper/

Your whole tenet is ignorant. I love both Bette Midler and Bette Davis... and I don not happen to be gay, but have many friends ( and a relative ) who happen to be. Minelli was a lucky person to have Garland as her mom. Otherwise, she would have died after Cabaret ... Oh! she actually did!!!!!!

June 2, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterRDF

I'm sorry, RDF/Rdf. It didn't occur to me you would be referring to yourself in the third person. Enjoy his day.

June 2, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterDaniella Isaacs

Nathaniel, having this endorsement of my art by you and your site is a dream come true and one of the sweetest gifts internet has offered me. I've followed The Film Experience for ten years now? and being featured here feels like coming home. Thank you so much.

Nathaniel - how fab ! Alejandro and his art is such a treasure for movie crazies & your actress-sexual followers ... they definitely should scroll though his account - it’s fantastic! My coffee mugs ALL got replaced by my favorite movie characters (14 and counting - all Hitchcock blondes, Bette, etc) and I still have fun deciding every morning in which mood I am today πŸ˜‰ ...

June 3, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterMartin

I laughed out loud at the Silence of the Lambs one.. would love to see the looks in the grocery store at that
