by Nathaniel R
Most film festivals seem to be trying to soldier on with smaller lineups and virtual screenings. NYFF is no exception. Today they've revealed the full lineup after previously announcing their opening, centerpiece, and closing films. So let's dig in to the lineup shall we? It includes several female directors, two major Oscar hopefuls, a new anthology series from Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave), and two gay romances...

CENTERPIECE
Frances McDormand in search of Oscar #3? We kid we kid as she doesn't seem the type that cares all that much. Nevertheless we had a hunch about this one from the director of critical indie darling The Rider and early buzz suggests our hunch (we'd already predicted it to be a major Oscar player back in April) was correct.

A documentary on people trying to survie war-torn countries in the Middle East from the director of the Oscar-nominated Fire at Sea

One of our favourite German directors returns with the stars of his last film Transit (Franz Rogowski & Paula Beer) for this romantic drama based on the mermaid myth.

Do we have 3 early Best Actress contenders in Winslet,Pfeiffer,McDormand.
Hunches don't count unless they're put into official predictions.
*hint hint* *Insert winky face here*
Sounds great, but as someone who can attend from my faraway sofa, I'd like them to release information about public tickets (TIFF too)!
My first thought was, “Where is Ammonite?!?!”
But otherwise I’m quite excited for the gala films, the Petzold, and some of the docs.
