All Oscar Charts have been updated!
All the Oscar charts are updated four days before the Spirit Award nominations are announced and about two weeks before the biggies (Globes and SAG) potentially throw everything into disarray by playing favourites and telling other films to get lost. We're now worried we're underestimating multiple films since lately the Oscar voters have been geting lazy and giving 10+ nominations to multiple films... and we don't have any film doing that kind of numbers this year. We might be overestimating Mank and underestimating Da 5 Bloods. Some films still feel like they could either settle for disappointing 1 or 2 nods or become formidable contenders like, say, Promising Young Woman, First Cow, and Minari.

Random thoughts because it's still so early so who can really tell. But I'd be predicting Janelle Monae's song from ALL IN and maybe even the song from MULAN, both of which I really quite like. Certainly over CHICAGO 7 and THE PROM.
I reckon COLLECTIVE can do the double. Especially this year.
MIDNIGHT SKY in production design, right? They bloody well love space ships.
Error in charts. Emerald Fennell directed Promising Young Woman, not I Will Carry You With Me.
I think Riz Ahmed is in, even though he and his performance are atypical for best actor nods.
And there are no locks in supporting actor. None. It's wide open.
If “What a Life” from Another Round is eligible for best original song it would be a travesty to not nominate it. Makes the ending of that film such a beautiful sweet release.
I am smelling a Gary Oldman snub. Why? Because there are other performances that sings so much more.
I would really like to see:
Chadwick Boseman
Delroy Lindo
Anthony Hopkins
Riz Ahmed
Kingsley Ben-Adir
Oldman and Yeun are going to sit this one out
Fig -- from my understanding it's not. which is a pity because WHAT A GREAT SONG.
Nathaniel: Just a note that the actress/actor/supporting actor links don't work as of Saturday....
My gut keeps telling me there will be surprises in Best Actress.
Maybe Jesse Buckley
Maybe Sidney Flanigan
Maybe Carrie Coon
I love surprises!
Good call on Kelly Reichardt. I haven't seen First Cow, but it sounds like a movie that directors would like. I suspect that the directors branch is not likely to nominate someone for their first movie, such as Regina King. Anybody have stats on that factor?
- Also, are they familiar with Lee Chung?
Redford won for directing his debut feature and Gibson for his second feature. John Singleton was nominated for his first feature as well. Off the top of my head.
A lot of prognosticators have Loren in their top 5. I love Loren but that would be a shame. Best Actress is full of such rich, complex performances that it'd be a shame to waste a nomination on such a nothing role. Plus, it is a supporting performance!
