Curio: "Stranger Things" Owns Fandom Right Now

Do you miss our Curio series? I miss Alexa who loved to compile fan art for us. So in honor of that departed series, which we will perhaps revive whenever it occurs to us like, uh, right now, a tip of our hat to the Duffer Brothers for creating such a fansation with their Netflix series Stranger Things. My own feelings are kind of mixed on the series -- especially in regards to the need for a second season (I like my loose ends, thank you very much) -- but I can't disagree that it's totally addictive.

It's not just internet artists adopting the series everywhere you look but restaurants, too.

As AV Club reports a pizzeria did several days of Stranger Things specials. Check out those awesome menu options above. This wasn't even all of it. I'd have been torn between ordering the Telekine Sauce or the The DemoGorgonzola

comic by Brandon Chapman

The twitter account Sketch Dailies which encourages internet people to draw a specific topic each day has held a whole week in honor of Stranger Things with different character topics by day. So check those out if you're so inclined. If you love illustrators as we do, it'll offer you abundant choices of artists you could be following on the internet right now.

Have clowns ever not been evil in movies?

That's my question to you today, dear readers.

Jason asked us to choose our favorite drunken clown couple in Shortcuts early in the week (have you voted yet?) to celebrate International Clown Week. I thought to do a follow up post but every time only horror films came to mind and it's just not the right time for that. Are there any non-scary clowns in the movies? Besides Anne Archer in Short Cuts, that is. Even Jimmy Stewart, who was largely a warm screen presence onscreen outside of Vertigo, was of mysterious and possibly murderous history when he played one in the much-maligned Best Picture winner The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), never taking his makeup off.

MNPP * NSFW* Orlando Bloom made the internet all sweaty with his nude paddleboarding adventure
MNPP I love the "Siri Says" series Jason does. She picks a number, he delivers his favorite films from that year.

The Tracking Board Hollywood is planning to remake Mexico's Miss Bala (sigh). Good luck finding a lead to match Stephanie Sigman in the 2011 original
Coming Soon Angelina Jolie has opted not to take the lead role in Murder on the Orient Express. Charlize Theron is the new possibility. And ICYMI...
TFE... we held a Cast This about the other roles in that remake recently.
Film Stage new Antonio Banderas movie is coming called Finding Altamira. I hadn't heard of this but it's directed by Hugh Hudson who I've suddenly realized is still alive. He hasn't made a movie in 16 years. I was just watching his Greystoke movie the other day
AV Club Antonio Sabato Jr hilarious thinks his career is over because of his support of Trump. Oh babe, it's been over for a long time. That's like blaming Obama for the death of Captain Khan who died four years before he was in offic-- oh wait.
Esquire In case you had forgotten that Clint Eastwood is an old guard conservative/misogynist, they have a new interview he does in tandem with his son Scott in which he uses "pussy" as a pejorative, disses Hillary and Obama, and tries that old chestnust "both sides" argument about Trump's behavior. Nope. Sorry Clint. Only one party tries to motivate voters with bigotry. (He also talks movies and at least he loves Sunset Blvd so he's not 100% a terrible person.)
Women and Hollywood Ava Duvernay to become the first black woman to helm a $100 million budgeted film with A Wrinkle in Time - this is news because she's quite successful already and men with a lot less success have been handed blockbuster budgets often. Crossing our fingers that it's a financial and artistic success!

Dunkirk Teaser
Here's the very quick new tease for Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk which seems certain to net him that Best Director nomination that's eluded him so long if it's any good at all, it being a WW II movie and him being "overdue" and such. And he knows how to direct spectacle films after all.

Congratulations, Lily Tomlin!

Photographed by Sebastian Kim for Interview

Lily Tomlin will be honored with SAG's Lifetime Achievement Award at this January's ceremony. SAG is strong with the actress-loving (unlike Oscar). This marks the 4th year in a row that the award has gone to a woman following Carol Burnett, Debbie Reynolds, and Rita Moreno.

We celebrated Lily a lot here last year with a look at her filmography, my own top 10 choices amongst her performances and I was proud to be on the poster for Grandma extolling her virtues so we've already had our say. I only ask that during the clip reel they show something from I ♥️ Huckabees (2004) because I'll never get enough of that character. I wish she and Dustin Hoffman could do a whole series about them or at least occasional webisodes of the further adventures of Vivian and Bernard, Existential Detectives.

From Here to Eternity? It's Jennifer & Justin's Wedding Anniversary

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux hit their first anniversary today. You know who shares that date on the calendar? Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft, that's who! They were married on this day in 1964 when they were both in their thirties. The 1960s were good to them as they both won Oscars and each other. They were married until her death in 2005. We miss her stellar acting.

On this day in showbiz history after the jump...
