Sofia Coppola's Filmography Thus Far

By Spencer Coile

Sofia Coppola's films belong inside a dream. Her unique blend of warm (yet vibrant) colors, stunning cinematography, and complicated characters, were on display from her debut feature onward. Although many cite Lost in Translation as her magnum opus, to ignore the rest of her stellar filmography would be a disservice to one of the most eloquent contemporary filmmakers.

Since The Beguiled opens wide next week (it's now playing in LA and NYC) and with her historic Best Director victory at Cannes this year fresh in their mirror let's look at the filmography...

Today's 5: Hulk out with Joan Crawford, ol' sport!

Good morning film fans. Make today a good one. We'll help with suggestions as to mental memes and mood boosters for the day.

Five showbiz anniversaries of note today (May 10th) and how to honor each of them

2013 The Great Gatsby opens in movie theaters. It's yet another hit for Baz Luhrmann and yet another Oscar-winning moment for his wife/collaborator Catherine Martin. It's also, to date, your only chance to see Leonardo DiCaprio in a pink suit.

In its honor today: Listen to that great soundtrack and annoy your friends by calling them "ol' sport" all day!

1977 Joan Crawford dies (as just dramatized on Feud's finale). But like all of the great film stars, she's immortal...

with Clark Gable in CHAINED (1934)

People have been trying to reduce her or count her out since she first became famous but she held on for decades with an iron grip...

Marie Antoinette & The Queens of "Drag Race"

Chris here. As we've been reminiscing on Marie Antoinette, it's worth calling out what an enduring fashion icon she remains hundreds of years after the fact. Her persona and iconography has been used endlessly in pop culture moments big and small, such as Madonna's iconic VMA "Vogue" performance. But naturally I'm here to talk about her influence on a particular art form: drag. The queens of RuPaul's Drag Race to be specific.

Category Is: Marie Antoinette At A Ball. Let's take a look at what the queens served when interpreting the Queen.

The Manipulative Monarch of "Farewell, My Queen"

We're celebrating Marie Antoinette for a few more days this week. Here's abstew - Editor

The legendary figure of Marie Antoinette has been the subject of gossip and infamy for over 200 years now. Although most scholars agree that all we may think we know about the excessive queen is mostly a misunderstanding. Even the most well-known phrase attributed to her, "Let them eat cake!", has been debunked as never actually been spoken by her. Even in her own time, there were pamphlets spread around France accusing her of infidelities with both men and women. At her trial, she was accused of staging orgies at the Palace of Versailles and even committing incest with her own son. Playing off of these rumors, French director Benoît Jacquot's 2012 film about Marie Antoinette, Farewell, My Queen, based on the novel by Chantal Thomas, invents a lesbian relationship between the Queen and a duchess at court...

"This wig weighs a ton"

Editor's Note: We're celebrating Marie Antoinette at the movies each afternoon for a week

Gee this wig weighs a ton.

Singin' in the Rain is, of course, a beloved movie about our beloved movies. There's lots of broad goofing on Hollywood history for movie buff amusement. But sometimes the gentle ribbing is actually pointed jabs. When Lina Lamont enters the shot above to shoot The Dueling Cavaliers the joke is bigger than her constant whining...
