Emmy Spotlight: "The Other Two" and the tradition of the 'lone writing nomination'

by Christopher James

The most joyfully surprising Emmy nomination of the year was a writing nod for The Other Two. This is the first (and unfortunately last) Emmy nomination for the uproarious satire. It was recently canceled amid workplace complaints towards creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider. As Team Experience team noted, The Other Two is one of the more underrated shows in the past few years. It started at Comedy Central before moving to Max, nee HBO, for seasons two and three.

A lone writing nomination at the Emmys for an underappreciated show is actually somethign of a tradition. Why is this one special and what other fan-favorite shows managed a similar feat? Read on...

Team Experience Reacts to the 2023 Emmy Nominations

by Christopher James

The Team was particularly excited for the four nominations for Jury Duty.

No one loves awards shows more than The Film Experience team. Loving an award show doesn’t mean nomination morning is happy. You take the lumps of coal with the bright, shiny surprises. There was plenty to like this year at the Emmys, and about as much to complain about as well. After all, there are more than 100 categories, even if most of them went to Succession.

Which Finale Season Will the Emmys Reward This Year?

by Christopher James

We are at an inflection point with the Emmys this year. Three previous winners are coming to an end this season, and a few series nominees who have waited patiently for their time at the top are in play. Still, many shows have won big time at the Emmys for their final seasons. The Sopranos and Breaking Bad coasted on acclaim for sticking their landing. Even shows like Friday Night Lights and The Americans finally won key awards for fantastic final seasons after never receiving Emmy acclaim before then. Having a strong ending isn’t even necessary sometimes. Game of Thrones was able to coast to a final win, despite a poorly reviewed ending.

With shows like Succession, Ted Lasso, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Barry and Better Call Saul all ending this Emmy season, which will take the crown?

"The Other Two" Shines by Putting Molly Shannon in the Spotlight

Wouldn't you watch a Molly Shannon talk show?

By: Christopher James

Creators Chris Kelley and Sarah Schneider should “Pat… themselves on the back” for another great season of The Other Two. Season two roars back with a new vigor as it re-centers the show around the Dubek matriarch, Pat (Molly Shannon), and her newfound success as a talk show host.

Last season saw the Dubak family thrust into the spotlight once the youngest son, ChaseDreams (Case Walker) has a viral hit and becomes an overnight pop sensation. Now, Chase is off to NYU (but not Tisch, as the show hilariously notes) and Pat has become a talk show host that rivals Chase in terms of popularity.

As for the titular Other Two Dubek siblings, they are… doing all right. At the very least, they are in better positions than last year...
