"The Kill Room" opens Friday

by Nathaniel R

Pulp Fiction favs Uma Thurman and Samuel L Jackson are reuniting onscreen for The Kill Room, an art-world set comic thriller. It opens this Friday. But we mostly want to shout this one out because our friend Denise Grayson (The Social Network), is in it. (She's the blonde upfront. We added the star for highlight). Actors aren't allowed to promote their own work at the moment, but we can still shout out actors we love as fans or friends. The trailer to The Kill Room is after the jump...

Halloween Obsessiveness: Uma's "Poison Ivy"

We thought it might be fun if Team Experience shared a few of our favourite Halloween memories with you.

by Nathaniel R

Some years ago I quit Halloween. It wasn't for lack of loving the holiday (have pumpkin patch sized love for it!) but for personal sanity. Favourite costumes over the years included Pinnochio, Peter Pan, Glinda the Good Witch (with my ex as The Wicked Witch and my best friend as The Tin Man, pictured left), Medusa (with an elaborate snake wig), and Mr Green in a group Clue costume. Letting Halloween go wasn't quite a cold turkey move but I knew I had a problem.

To surely every therapist's delight, the problem came from childhood...

Models + Trivia + Movies!

by Nathaniel R

"The Trinity" - Christy, Naomi, and Linda

Happy half-century birthday today to the one and only Naomi Campbell. For those of you who were born in the 1990s or later you might have missed what a huge supernova deal models were to pop-culture in the late 1980s to late 1990s. Household name models had existed for some time before of course (Twiggy in the 60s / Paulina in the 80s, etcetera) but it was in the 1990s when the term "supermodel" was coined and when the models who could legitimately be called household names began to truly multiply. "Supermodels" infiltrated rock and roll (via a constant presence in music videos) and tranferred to movies and tv by becoming their own brands and trying their hand at acting... or merely playing themselves (often superbly) in fashion-related movies or documentaries.

MODEL/MOVIE TRIVIA AFTER THE JUMP... HOW MANY CAN YOU GUESS IN 10 MINUTES?

1969 Wes Anderson born in Houston, Texas

1970 Happy 50th anniversary to Hammer Horror's Taste the Blood of Dracula starring Christopher Lee which opened on this day.

1998 Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke get hitched, two days after Uma's 28th birthday and two months before the birth of their daughter Maya (who is now an actress, see Stranger Things season 3). They had co-starred in the previous year's sci-fi drama Gattaca and will make two more films together (Chelsea Walls and Tape) as well as a second child before separating in 2003 - a very big year for Uma, professionally. Yes Uma has been on our brains this week.

2000 Gladiator has its world premiere in Los Angeles before opening nationwide the following weekend and becoming an enormous hit. Later it competed for Best Picture at the big awards show and when the envelope was opened it was always...

To Uma on her 50th Birthday

Happy 50th Uma!by Mark Brinkerhoff

There is the world before Uma Thurman, and the world after Uma Thurman—or at the very least for the world of actressexuals (unite!). A movie star like no other, her origins are almost as mythical as her stature. The daughter of an erstwhile Buddhist monk and a former high-fashion model—I kid you not—Uma, as mononymous as any great, was born on this date in 1970 and lived mainly in the rural environs of interior New England and upstate New York (Woodstock, to be exact).

A self-described awkward, introverted child, she nonetheless cut an arresting figure, catching the acting bug early. She followed in her mother’s footsteps as a professional model starting at the tender age of 15.

Uma's early Vogue cover. Shot by Patrick "We have Patrick" de Marchelier

Soon enough she landed in magazines and on the covertwice—of British Vogue, where her Amazonian proportions and striking visage were put to effective, glam ‘80s use...
