You can say the same, unfortunately, for many far greater auteurs. Length -- one might say dick-measuring --almost always comes with the territory of being a respected auteur, whether you're respected for your art or your money-generating craft... the same thing tends to happen.

Finally, Clothes on Film has a fine piece on Kate Winslet's omnipresent floral housedress in Todd Haynes' remake of Mildred Pierce (which should be cleaning up in the Emmy nominations in a couple of weeks -- I'm most curious to see if/how many supporting actress nods it manages since I suspect Brian F. O'Byrne and Kate Winslet are givens). Ann Roth was the costume designer for that miniseries. You can see an interview with Ann Roth about her designing process (not a Mildred interview) here.

That Spike Lee article just makes me sad. He's one of my favorites (despite Miracle at St. Anna) and I just want something new from him already! :-(

I'm sorry I couldn't find stunning Lisa Ray (WATER) among the hottest canadian celebrities. she's one of the most beautiful actresses in the world, let alone in Canada!
For Mildred Pierce, i expect Melissa Leo and Evan Rachel Wood, but i really hope they don't forget Mare Winningham!!
I don't think Brian F. O'Byrne is a lock for a nomination, unfortunately. I think Guy Pearce is more of a sure thing, based on name alone.
Actually I would prefer to read Winningham's name among the nominees than Leo's oo Wood's...just my opinion...
anon -- OUCH. but you're right now that i think of it. It sucks that the name alone is often all that's needed. i liked Guy Pearce quite a bit but in no way was he superior to O'Byrne's work in that series.
Mirko -- i think i liked Winningham best. she had such a perfect control of "period" and was just a really fun snappy performance.
