When Bad Things Happen To Good Actresses (Part Zillion)
What are the chances that Trespass (2011) in which my beloved Nicole Kidman is soiled by association with hacktor Nicolas Cage is as terrible as Next (2007) in which my beloved Julianne Moore was soiled by association with hacktor Nicolas Cage?
Slim? I mean Next is an atrocious movie... so Trespass would have to be less embarrassing, right? Famous last words?
The only reason I saw Next back in the day was because I'm a masochist/completist with Julianne. Even Julianne herself felt sorry for me when I told her I'd seen nearly all of them.
Really? My god, you've seen some junk then!
I haven't been anywhere close to a completist with Nicki Kidman, Nicki Kidman. Which... well, I'm not sure why. So I can probably live with myself if I skip Trespass. The movie supposedly arrives in October but things have been suspiciously quiet and honestly I keep forgetting that it even exists... so I'm very late with the sharing of posters, news, photos.
The same selective/protective amnesia thing keeps happening to me with Michelle Pfeiffer & New Year's Eve. But more on that one soon... unless I forget it again. I am duty bound to see that once since we only get one Pfeiffer picture every 100 years. She's like the Brigadoon of actresses. (sigh)
Trespass was originally slated for 2012 but I guess they finished early and it might be a limited theatrical or even straight to DVD thing? Joel Shumacher, who directed Kidman in Batman Forever and Cage in 8MM corralled those stars again for this story about two marrieds (Kidman & Cage) whose dream home is invaded. Here's Nic & Nic being terrorized by Animal Kingdom's Ben Mendelsohn and Nicole hanging with Cam Gigandet.
I would've typed "shirtless Cam Gigandet" but that's so redundant, don'cha think?

All of Kidman's commercial fare is garbage. I only like her as the willing victim to the whims of sadistic, foreign and domestic, auteurs.
Watching a Nicholas Cage film is like Russian roulette - you never know if he's going to be decent (Adaptation, Kick-Ass) or awful (everything after 2002). It's actually admirable.
Ben Mendehlson is the villain in this? Crap, now I'm curious.
Nic has another film do out this year with January Jones and Guy Pearce called The Hungry Rabbit Jumps...he works nonstop. On crap...
Everyone involved with Adaptation. kind of got an eternal free pass from me, though Cage is probably the only one who actually needs it. But it doesn't really matter, since I never bother with his usual fare anyway.
I think I read that the DVD is coming out a month later. It's a limited release film.
Now I'm kind of curious as to which films of La Kidman's you have and haven't seen, Nat.
I agree with Paolo re: Cage, but I think that made this a no-go for me from the start was Schumacher's involvement.
But Nicole looks soooooooooo pretty. I promised myself I'd stop watching Nic Cage movies, but how can I resist this? HOW???!!!!
It looks like a good movie to me and I love Nicole, so I plan on seeing it! I don't know what everyone has against Nic Cage, I think he is a very good actor
Thanks to this I just read your interview with Julianne Moore (I’m so jelly right now). With Tresspas, Nic Cage has completed his ultimate goal for starring in a movie with each lead actress from The Hours (Moore, Streep, and Kidman)
Rosie - Nic Cage is a good actor - when he wants to be. The problem is that he very seldom wants to be a good actor.
@K, Cage a good actor?
Playing a drunk a hundred years ago and winning gold for that doesn't make up for all the lack of facial expressions in his post Vegas films. Even her Moonstruck costar can show more emotion.
Regarding Nicole, I reconciled with her in Rabbit Hole but she has to prove us she's definetely back and Tresspass is not the way to go...
BTW I'm so expecting The Others 10th anniversary celebration. For me, It's her best performance ever.
Ps. And Amenábar is not a sadistic, foreign auteur. Ok, foreign and auteur, but sadistic? No way..
A film directed by the same guy that gave us THE WORST BATMAN SERIES EVER MADE is getting attention? I'll pass. Kidman or no Kidman.
Janice -- i have not seen anything before DEAD CALM (7 aussie titles). After Dead Calm I've seen everything EXCEPT... (gulp. long list coming)
billy bathgate (91)
far and away (92)
malice (93)
my life (93)
the leading man (96)
the peacemaker (97)
the human stain (03)
the interpreter (05)
just go with it (11)
The first time I was *into* her watching a movie was TO DIE FOR -- before that i hadn't liked her at all. And after that, i went back and caught a few earlier pictures that i did really like like Dead Calm and Flirting. But I didn't get far.... and i was no rabid fan until her 2001 double owned that year.
Shoemaker has some dirt on her. That's the only explanation.
Nat -- From your miss list I've seen only four:
far and away (92)
malice (93)
the interpreter (05)
just go with it (11)
and I'm afraid I can only recommend Malice, but just because she plays (against type?) a femme fatale. Otherwise I don't think you have missed much.
This was always going to be an interesting movie for me - Nicole Kidman is my all-time favourite actor, and Nicolas Cage is my all-time least favourite actor. Nevertheless, I am VERY disappointed about the financial prospects of this film. I was actually looking forward to it, and it seemed like it might just have worked, but now I'm in doubt. Oh well, Nicole's new one she's filming 'The Paperboy' is looking great from the on-set photos, and as long as she's still pushing for The Danish Girl to get made I'm happy :)
