Remains of the Globes: 9 Questions and Carrying On
It's all over... for this year. As you read this and if you happen to live in the States, Nathaniel (c'est moi) might well be flying over you en route to Los Angeles. There we leave the Globes behind and move on to the next awards show: the Broadcast Film Critics Association's "Critics Choice Movie Awards" which are on A&E this Thursday night.
But before we leave the Globes behind for good, 9 questions. Please to answer them in the comments.
01 Common described Ava DuVernay as a superhero. What are her powers?
02 Since Kevin Spacey said he wanted to "be better" from now on, does that mean he'll come out? Or try new things as an actor... like, doing a super-repressed / inarticulate / restrained character? That would surely test his range.
03 Would you rather: Colin or Colin? Hulk or Hulk?
04 Who did you think was best / worst dressed? So sorry we had no time for a red carpet lineup.
05 With Transparent's big wins does its heat transfer to Emmys and does Amazon become a true threat to Netflix?
06 Ms. Golden Globe gets to be on stage and get her own press release and everything. But this guy providing balance for Amy, does far more actual work. See how he makes himself invisible (disappearing underneath the stage) until he's needed, a suddenly visible and visibly cute gentleman escort to get the ladies up the steps without tripping on their gowns.
Who is he? What should we call him?
07 Biggest Bombs: Jennifer & Jeremy? Streep & Cho?
08 Was this really Tina & Amy's last hosting job or will the HFPA just offer them an enormous raise to keep them?
09 Will Oscar voters want to hear a full Eddie Redmayne speech since he was basically just cut off at the Globes?

Woody Allen is writing and directing a series for Amazon, so, that'll do it.
I had a question- did not understand why Streep and Blunt were not sitting with the Into the Woods table with Marshall/Kendrick? Instead they were dead center with Mirren and Chastain??
Oh, Eddie... no one could top Michael Keaton, unless it was another older actor feeling the weight of the moment.
I doubt Fey and Poehler will return next year. That was the whole point in signing on for 2 more years after their first gig, so that was clear. You never know, tho.
As for Streep, I know she's always game and just all around fantastic but it's a bit boring how she's always used to make jokes on this kind of events. Last year about the roles for 'Meryl Streep after 60', recently at the Oscars on her umpteenth nomination and on Sunday the whole thing with Cho and even Gervais name-checking her with his 'I know what you did to get here' joke. It is funny, but really, there's like hundreds of celebrities in there and at least a handful of Streep-level legends, so spread the wealth a bit!
Half a dozen Streep-level legends?
Carlos- Streep has become the "Jack Nicholson" of awards show- always up front, always up for anything, and you can always count that they will be present.
Warning: closed minded Streep fanatic here: I loved the fact that she presented the big award at the end of the night, not because she is Streep, but because they allowed a female to present it. Hope the Oscars follow suit and allows a female to present Best Picture this year
My bad, Carlos. I read 'handful' as 'half dozen' for some reason. But still, please name the handful of Streep-level legends.
My dream is for Oscar winners Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon to present best picture at the oscars <3
Answers in order except for the first since I have no idea who this woman is.
2. Do I think Spacey should be open? Yea, but if he chooses not to that's his business. The suggestion of the repressed, inarticulate character is intriguing though.
3. With the Colins it's a super tough choice but I guess Farrell if Firth could stop by every now and then. The second would be Ruffalo without a second thought.
4. Best Dressed-The effortlessly chic Jane Fonda who happily isn't afraid of color. Worst Dressed-Jennifer Lopez.
5. Like Hayden I think the Woody Allen signing will do a lot to push Amazon forward.
6. Don't know who he is but he was definitely a cutie.
7. Biggest Bomb-Streep and Cho
8. I enjoyed Amy & Tina but they're wise to step back while they are still hot. Maybe take a few years break and then come back fresh.
9. I think Keaton has Best Actor all sown up but Redmayne will be there some other time.
Nathaniel, your C'est Moi instantly made me think of Robert Goulet!
@brandz Fair point I know Streep is regarded as THE living acting legend and is much more active and present. But there's other veteran actors that, albeit are not as idolized, should be just as admired. I mean, Lange was there, Fonda was there (although I've always found her rather humorless), Duvall was there (let's not get into the silly nomination for The Judge )... Arguably, they probably wouldn't have been as game. And Streep is also fun to joke about because she's so relatable and seems like such a nice person. Having said that, I would've liked to see how Jane Fonda reacted to being targeted for a fake political statement photograph haha
@Jamie, good point about Streep being the new Nicholson of awards shows! Another reason to have her announce best picture? Or why not have her with De Niro, with Hoffman or with Moore & Kidman to have some 'high calibre costars of yesteryear reunion' fun? One of my favorite bits of oscar trivia on youtube is the clip of Hoffman and Bancroft presenting an Oscar (I forget year/category and am too lazy to check :P) and having some memorable Graduate banter.
Also, speaking of Streep-jokes and dream Oscar occurrences: wouldn't it be great if some time a host did that old Billy Crystal bit in which he used to make up what the actors in the audience were thinking and Streep just came up with 'click-click-click-click'? (That's a Kate Hepburn reference, in case it's not well known). That would indeed be a niche, yet hilarious bit for actressexuals!
Best Dressed: Ginger Brigade - Julianne Moore, Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone, Amy Adams = redheads killed it.
Worst Dressed: Bennett Sisters - Keira Knightley, Rosamund Pike - wtf? I am an absolute fan of both of these actresses and usually feel like a proud parent when I see them in photos or at events. They have grown up so nicely since P&P, gotten married, and are both entering the motherhood phase... I adore them.
But Keira was wearing a butterfly dress topped by a tea cosy, and Rosamund was wearing a white monstrosity that looked very unappealing.
Now these are 2 of the most beautiful women in the world looking bad, (which I didn't think was possible). I blame the dresses, designers, stylists, and their respective teams.
I am hoping that the Bennett girls do better next time out - I need to see them looking fabulous as usual.
I don't believe that Amy & Tina will come back but give me any combination of the Bridesmaids cast and I can be happy. Melissa, Kristin, Rose, Wendi, etc...
Gentleman usher = Upstairs Footman
Dave-my actressexual nerd-dom really wished they would honor one of the best Best Actress years ever that's celebrating its 40th anniversary and get Faye Dunaway, Ellen Burstyn, Diahann Carroll, Valerine Perrine, and Gena Rowlands to present the top prize.
#6--Ashton Kutcher.
With regards to Transparent's Emmy chances, I literally see no way that Jeffrey Tambor doesn't win at the Emmy's next year. Best Leading Actor, Comedy is always a ludicrously weak race (sure Louis C.K. is great, but his performance is way more divisive than Tambor's). Also, Tambor is a 6 time Emmy nominee, so they clearly like the man. I'm less certain about the show given that the far more popular Orange is the New Black couldn't unseat Modern Family, but at the same time I haven't spoke to a single person that has seen Transparent and did not like it.
Surely Streep (if I can call call her that!) was just sitting with some of the other nominees?
Naomi Watts was my best dressed. I could have lived without the necklace though. Also, I genuinely thought J-Lo looked great (hope I don't get singled out for 'slut-shaming!)
JOHN T- Wow, you just blew my mind with that suggestion! :)
