Happy Monday Open Thread
Monday, July 24, 2017 at 1:00PM
The Film Experience is mostly an online party, but on very rare occasions small portions of us have the opportunity to see each other off line. So from this brief weekend get together... happy Monday to all of you!
WHAT'S ON YOUR CINEMATIC MIND?

Your predictions. You're a bit late, as usual.
TIFF ANNOUNCEMENT TOMORROW !
I know who'd I blow out of this group.
First, ya'll are fucking adorbs. Second, I've been thinking about What Ever Happened To Baby Jane. In particular, what would've happened had they actually went through campaigning Joan in Supporting. Would she have beaten Party Duke for her second? Or was the Academy just so in love with The Miracle Worker's ladies that just being nominated was enough for that performance?
Gr8 pic,America has gr8 looking fellas.Who ended up on the bar piano Makin' Whopee!
Jose's Bette Davis t-shirt is giving me life!
Mark -- thank you but sadly this bar failed in the "piano" arena in that THERE WASN'T ONE. sigh.
I love that Jose is about glamourous gowns even in his t-shirts!
Nat and Mark - I thoroughly believe every bar should have a piano! If only for the ambience!
You guys rock! The whole team rocks!
Seeing pictures of your get-together on Instagram totally made my weekend! :)
As for what's on my mind, that would be "Dunkirk," which is opening here this week and unless I change my mind again will be the first film I'm willing to see in the theater since "Arrival" in December.
Your thoughts on Michelle Pfeiffer's chances of winning an Emmy for The Wizard of Lies and being cast in Ant-Man and the Wasp?
Mark - I'm always on a piano in my mind
What's on my cinematic mind?
Julie Christie! Why don't we discuss her more?
Not present: Seán McGovern.
Would love to hang with you guys!
Sending big love from London. x
@Chris HA Ha,where did Jose get THAT T shirt.I'm all about looking gr8 in an unusual/gay inspired T shirt this summer.
leave it to Artful to leave a negative comment... you guys are all great, but it is good to have Nat back.
When will the first TFE-Con be?
natalie: Um, not sure how I'd see what he said in this thread is negative? Crude, absolutely, but not hateful.
On my mind is the desire to fuck all of you! Such a gorgeous group!
Someone help me figure out what kind of music this boyband would make. Thanks for sharing, guys!
Volvagia
You see it the way you want to
I will see it as Artful being an asshole.
Maybe you Are soulmates.
What's on my cinematic mind?
John Heard.
I keep thinking of how much I liked him in "Heart Beat" with Sissy Spacek and Nick Nolte.
Heard played Jack Kerouac, the "On the Road" writer and beat icon. Heard played this cool guy as totally uncool, and revelling in uncoolness, which gave him space to write. I like that about Heard; that he goes for the truth of artistic creation, rather than the personality that fronts it.
It reminds me of that great scene in "Almost Famous" where they talk about being uncool and getting their work done.
"Homer, please! These boys sound very nice, but they're clearly nerds."
;-)
I will see it as Artful being an asshole.
But you're not being a bitch?
I just love the Margo Channing T-shirt!
Detroit. Will Bigelow's take on the Detroit riots of 1967 be the defining take on the tumultuous racial times during the Civil Rights era of mid-twentieth century America? And how does the film relate to our current racial status? And, as purely a film helmed by an acclaimed female director, where does it fall within her filmography, and how does it compare to previous similarly-themed films?
It was pretty lame gag-Artful, not asshole-Artful. Please people wait for him to say something shitty.
Jennifer Jones. And Mrs David Selznick.
Why couldn't some of these movies have opened earlier in the summer? I really don't like seeing more than one movie in the theater per week but I was sick with a migraine last week, and now I have to play catch-up on Dunkirk, plus Atomic Blonde and A Ghost Story are opening.
This thread certainly went to a place...
Whatever happened to Rene Russo? (re: what's on my cinematic mind) She seemed poised for a mini-comeback after NIGHTCRAWLER that hasn't quite materialized.
On my cinematic mind:
Why it's so hard to find Notorious or Spellbound. No streaming, no DVD to rent or buy. My last option is the library and if they don't have it, I'm stuck. These are mainstream Hitchcock movies with major movie stars and Oscar nominations - why are they so obscure?
OMG Friendly happy faces are so uplifting. I'm glad to be back...
