Red Carpet Lineup: One Last Look at the Golden Globe Gowns

Though we gawked at beautiful men, giggled at Viking hats, and pursed our Devil-in-Prada lips at flowery dresses the big fashion blowout post is only happening now. Procrastination is sometimes healthy because we need escapism constantly of late given the increasing despair in the world. Oscar nomination balloting is now complete but until the world is no more award seasons will continue to roar.  Which lewks were your favourites? We'll divvy it up into categories starting with blue and red families...

Bel Powley, Thomasin McKenzie, Shailene Woodley

Globe Comedy nominees Ana de Armas and Beanie Feldstein in midnight blues.

Tiffany Haddish, plus Parasite wonders Lee Jung Eun and Cho Yeo-Jeong

Sacha Baron Cohen & Isla Fisher +  Da'Vine Joy Randolph

Zhao Shuzhen & Olivia Colman in matron-glamorous reds.

Accented queens Salma, Nicole, and Renée

and now some lovely couples...  beginning with two buzzy filmmaker partnerships (offscreen in both cases though Greta & Noah have previously also worked together onscreen)

Barry Jenkins + Lulu Wang and Greta Gerwig + Noah Baumbach

Fred Armisen & Natasha Lyonne

and four more very famous & gorgeous couplings.

Awww, look, two pint-sized cuties who both gave excellent performances this year

Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit) and Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time ...in Hollywood)

Marvelous Mrs Caroline Aaron and the always chic and fashion-forward Cate Blanchett

Fleabag, Villanelle, and Zooey Deutch

Charlize & Beyoncé... they only need first names.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michelle Williams, and Sienna Miller

Gwyneth Paltrow in a bizarre brown sheer nightgown over lingerie.

An on to beauties in black. Sometimes black feels like a fashion crutch, other times it's ravishing. We got a little of both on Globes night.

Zoe, Margaret Qualley, Erivo, and Jennifer Aniston

La Pfeiffer, Rooney Mara and Globe winner Awkwafina. Isn't it strange that she's known as a comedienne but won for a Dramatic performance... that was in the comedy category.

Sarah Snook was a vision, and that dress in motion was dazzling.

Kerry Washington &  Naomi Watts to go. Both ravishing.

Who would you name as best dressed from Globes night? My vote went to Sarah Snook's black mesmerizing voluminous gown (though still photos dont quit capture how breathtaking it was). With Zooey and Zoe as runners-up.

The midnight blues for the win!

Wait, what—Barry Jenkins & Lulu Wang and Fred Armisen & Natasha Lyonne are couples...since 2014?! (God, where have I been.)

I'd say that de Armas, Deutch and Washington are the best dressed (of this lineup), although you have to admit that Awkwafina, Kidman, Randolph, Shuzhen and, yes, Zellweger look pretty sensational.

P.S. Ms. Caroline Aaron FTW!

Was it Sarah Snook's voluminous black gown you were thinking of? My jaw dropped when I saw her saunter up to the stage in it.

@Nathaniel. The woman in the black dress that you mention, could it be Sarah Snook?

The best dressed for me:

1. Beanie Feldstein
2. Cate Blanchett
3. Zoe Kravitz
4. Zhao Shuzhen
5. Jane Levy

Everyone looks ill.

One of my favorite looks of the evening was not pictured above: Joey King wearing sound-waves. Of those pictured here, I thought Cate Blanchett, Zhao Shuzhen, Cho Yeo-Jeong, and Beanie Feldstein were among the most elegant.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge in a mind-bending tux.

Kerri Washington had nothing to hide!!

Unrelated, but I've never understood how come Oscar nominations turns out to be symmetrical with so many bodies voting. Have you take into consideration this fact, Nathaniel?

I means there's usually a movie that sets apart with most nominations. But the rest usually goes two with same number, other two likewise and so on... How could that happen?

January 9, 2020 | Unregistered Commenterchofer

Zooey Deutch's outfit is a pantsuit! I have to stan.
My jaw dropped when I saw Rooney.
How can Nicole always look so good?

January 9, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterFadhil

Ana de Armas and Zhao Shuzhen looked sensational.

I am happy to have two filmmaking couples I can root for in Barry and Lulu and Greta and Noah.

January 9, 2020 | Unregistered Commenterjules

Sienna's wearing that dress in protest at being ignored all season long.

Is part of Kerry's dress awol.

Has Ronney Mara come in Rachel Griffiths cos play

Cate looks interesting

Zhao and Scarlett looked the best in red.

J Lo and Charlize let me down most

Nice to see Naomi looking great.

Quite underwhelming overall.

I actually agree with you, although I've got a bohemian soft spot for Lisa Bonet's dress lol.

Ana de Armas was lovely, too. Overall though I felt like this year was ???

i thought Shailene Woodley looked especially nice. Very sleek. It never ceases to amaze me how Jennifer Aniston wears such simple clothes and always looks great. And personally, I am SICK of red dresses on the red carpet. There's a whole rainbow of colors to pick from, designers and ladies!

Also just wanted to "share" that Jason Momoa wore a tank top under his suit, because I caught a look at him in an audience pan over and he was sitting at a table at the Golden Globes wearing a tank top (swoon!)

January 9, 2020 | Unregistered Commenterrrrich7

Cate Blanchett. There is no competition really

January 9, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterManuel

Who designed JLo's horrible dress Hallmark Wrapping? Actually Beyonce looks worse.

January 9, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJaragon

Naomi Watts looks absolutely stunning. And natural. I would love to see her back on the awards trail.
