"Time" keeps racking up the honors
The Cinema Eye Honors are now in their 14th year and considered an influential prize for documentary films. Prison sentence justice movie Time leads the nominations with six but two competitors for the top prize, Romania's political corruption doc Collective (Romania's Oscar submission) and Norway's farm doc Gunda aren't far behind with four nominations.

I really disliked Time. There are numerous documentaries on similar topics without such narrative flaws and self serving protagonists. I listen to about 5 podcasts every week that do a better job.
Don't understand the praise at all.
Very surprised to see only a single nomination for City Hall. Although, in all fairness, the editing is its most significant and strongest artistic device. So, I guess it makes sense. I have to catch up on a few, including Time, but so far rooting for Collective across the board.
I am upset that "Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen" isn't nominated anywhere... it's basically "The Celulloid Closet 2"... it's SO good.
I've seen 4 of 5 here, and, for the most part, I think this is a fine list. But the best documentary this year is "Assassins."
Jesus -- i actually thought it was disappointing. To me there wasn't much variety in what they were talking about and showing. I didn't feel like I was learning a lot or being entertained (both of which i felt during Celluloid Closet) but perhaps it was just me because a lot of people seem to like that one.
I'm happy that Gunda has been honored. I'm worried that people won't have the patience to watch a 90-minute black-and-white wordless documentary about pigs at home, but it's so good if you're in the right mindset. It's honestly made me understand the rescue dogs I've known a little more.
