The 14th Annual Team Experience Awards: "OBAA" and "Sinners" lead the nominations
Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 7:00PM
SINNERS | © Warner Bros.
One Battle After Another and Sinners lead the 14th annual Team Experience Award nominations. Both films scored twelve nods each, a bit below their Oscar haul in the horror flick’s case, but still respectable. However, neither beat the Team Experience Awards record set by The Favourite, which scored 13 nominations in 2019. As ever, it’s worth reminding that these honors are voted on by The Film Experience writers, excluding Nathaniel, who does his own Film Bitch Awards, wholly separate from this list. He probably wouldn’t have allowed the tie that expands this year’s Best Director roster to six slots. Oh well, it’s more cinema to celebrate, more artistry to cheer and applaud. So, let’s get to it!

FUN FACTS & FIGURES
- In total, 49 films received votes in the Best Picture category.
- In total, 82 performances received votes across the four acting categories.
- Across these 20 categories, the Team Experience managed to recognize 44 features. The numbers are down from last year's 47. It is, however, significantly more than the Academy, whose voting body nominated a grand total of 35 feature films.
- With twelve nominations each, One Battle After Another and Sinners are this year's nomination leaders. Last year, this honor belonged to The Brutalist, with seven nods to its name.
- Among individuals, Paul Thomas Anderson, Ryan Coogler, Kleber Mendonça Filho, and Park Chan-wook are the most recognized, scoring citations for directing, writing, and producing their projects.
- Notably, The Voice of Hind Rajab follows in the steps of Close Your Eyes and Alcarrás by scoring a Team Experience nomination in Best Picture and nowhere else.
- With four nominations across the board, Frankenstein is the most nominated film out of the Best Picture race.
- Category confusion strikes again! Paul Mescal, Josh O’Connor and Stellan Skarsgård all got votes as leads and supporting actors. Of these, only Skarsgård landed the nomination. This year, there was also category confusion in the writing races, as Roofman scored votes as both an adapted and an original screenplay.
- In terms of aligning with the Academy's taste, the Team Experience had ballots very similar to AMPAS' in the Best Production Design and Sound categories. In those cases, it was a 4/5 match.
- Father and son Stellan and Alexander Skarsgård are both nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Another such duo, the dearly departed Mohammad Bakri and his son Saleh Bakri, also received votes in the acting categories. In that case, both starred in the same film, All That’s Left of You.
- Though multiple actors had more than one eligible performance – the aforementioned Saleh Bakri, Everett Blunck, Amy Madigan, Josh O’Connor, A$AP Rocky, and Amanda Seyfried – they were mentioned for one of them on the ballots. This differs from Sebastian Stan’s situation last year, when he was splitting votes with himself for both A Different Man and The Apprentice.
- Some films are fated to be always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Marty Supreme was runner-up in four categories but was nominated only for Best Production Design. The Secret Agent and Sound of Falling were runners-up in three races, but, at least, they both received multiple nods elsewhere.
- Since we started sharing the team’s aggregated top ten, this is the first time that the majority of the nominees (6/10) are in a language other than English.

Why you’re doing category fraud even here?
Well Done on recognising the sheer brilliance of Chalfant and even you people bought into the Buckley hype,I don't get it.
Not much a fan of your Supporting Actors outside of Penn esp the overrated Dad and Son.
Yeah for the Train Dreams love.
Surprised no Leo or Timothee.
WTH is Amy Madigan, horror gets the cold shoulder here yet again and sorry no Frankenstein 2026 is not one bit horrific except it's sets and costumes.
If you're names not Sinners in horror you had no chance..
The lack of Twinless love is baffling.
Well this is a lot of fun. I wonder how many votes it would take to get into the Best Picture category, so I guess how many people total were voting?
I haven't seen Magellan mentioned much at all, and yet here it is. Exciting to see something new (to me) listed, and I'm excited to check it out.
I assume that voters could put people in whatever category they wanted to. Did any of the vote splitters get enough votes that if they were combined they would have been nominated? So, for example, adding up Paul Mescal's total votes, would that have gotten him a spot if there wasn't category confusion?
And I'm impressed that a lot of the default nominees from other groups don't show up here. Nice to see some independent thinking!
Surprised Amy Madigan was left out - but if it left room for Regina Hall, I'm in. I wish Hall had been better recognized this year, I thought she was such a standout in OBAA.
Great music choices too, but I wish Daniel Lopatin's Marty score had gotten a little more love all season long.
At a certain point, I think you can retire the best non-English film category, given that they're bound to take up about 40-60% of any well-considered best picture category.
Just saw Rosemead. Lucy Liu has got to be the most underrated performance of the year.
Flowers by Irene -- As the person who organizes and tabulates this vote, I wish I could disqualify the votes for instances of what I perceive to be category fraud, but that would feel non-democratic and shitty of me toward my fellow writers. So, category fraud prevails... sigh.
Mr. Ripley79 -- TWINLESS received votes for Best Picture, Actor and Original Screenplay. Just not enough (or not rated high enough, since we do a preferential ballot in all categories) to score the nomination.
Dave in Hollywood -- We're not a big bunch - only contributing writers to TFE - and the votes are weighted by how they are ranked in each voter's ballot, so, sometimes, contenders with few but passionate supporters can get in. That's what happened with MAGELLAN. Indeed, it just missed Best Cinematography.
Also, you are correct in your assumption about the vote splitting. If I added Mescal's Best Actor points to his Supporting Actor ones, he'd be nominated for the latter category. The reverse wouldn't be true.
Mike in Canada -- I don't want to reveal too much, but Madigan was tied for sixth place with THE SECRET AGENT's Tânia Maria in Best Supporting Actress. Had both of them received just one extra vote, and we'd get seven nominees in that particular acting race. It was tight!
As someone who thinks MARTY SUPREME's score is the best thing about it, I am also sad that Lopatin keeps getting overlooked. I voted for him here. Regarding the Best Non-English-Language Film category, you're probably right. I guess we're just holding on because of tradition and the fact, most years, the Best Picture lineup tends to be majority English-language. This is the first year when it isn't.
whunk (he/him) -- Not a fan of the film, but she's very good in it. If it makes you feel better, as an awards voter, I saw a lot of effort put into her campaign. Indeed, that campaign is the only reason I made sure to check my screener before submitting my Golden Globe votes way back in November.
It's amusing how Sean Penn has jolted back into the conversation.
He was treated like a nonentity from December 'til the end of February—nobody seemed to think he had a shot at winning a major precursor, much less the Oscar. Which always struck me as odd given that his performance was the one people left the year's biggest movie talking about.
And now he's won BAFTA and SAG back-to-back. I don't know if he'll win the Oscar (actually feel a Lindo wave coming in such an open field) but I'd say Penn was extremely underestimated.
It would be interesting to know if voters make their decisions considering that are ranking their favourites or the films that each consider "the best"
In any case, I don't get the love for Emma Stone and Regina Hall, I love both of them but I feel are too contained, surprises me more about Stone because has much more atention than Jesse Plemons which I feel way interesting and complex
Is curious how this lists have some idiosyncrasy involved, a film very beloved in México (including myself) was The Ugly Stepsister but have been practically ignored outside
Is great to watch It Was Just an Accident, even more in ensemble, and I found Pepe more interesting in its direction than the screenplay but an inspiring choice anyway
Claudio, thank you so much for the replies! It was interesting to read how vote splitting occurs in a real situation re: Paul Mescal. When I left the movie, I could see his "category" going either way really. Definitely the leading man in his movie, but almost every scene he was in was dominated by Jessie Buckley (by design). I'm sure the same thing happened with all the other awards groups as well.
Thank you, fellow TFErs, for recognizing the brilliance of the editing in House of Dynamite.
Maybe I have Emma Stone fatigue, but I really don't see how she consistently makes top 5 tabulations. Even here. Seyfried, Victor, Hawkins, etc??
@Arlo she's in her prime years when everything she appears in is considered,a lot of actress have had those eras
