The Boston Film Critics Society formed in 1980 divvying up their first year of prizes largely between Martin Scorsese's Raging Bull and Jonathan Demme's undeappreciated Melvin & Howard. (Both auteurs would reign again with the BFCS via The Departed and Silence of the Lambs). While they don't often out on stylish limbs and aren't as invested in foreign films as they once did and were, when they return to either of those impulses it's often exciting. Our absolute favorite thing they occassional do is a weirdo but "why, yes, actually!" supporting performance pick like Toni Collette for The Hours, Juliette Lewis in Conviction or Ezra Miller in Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 3:33PM Toronto Film Critics Association, our friends to the North established back in 1997, stuck with their Southern neighbors in embracing Moonlight and Manchester (2 prizes each) and the folks cross the ocean in loving all over Toni Erdmann (3 prizes). Their full list is after the jump and we're so glad The VVitch was finally honored. It took the home team (O Canada!) to finally get that done...

Monday, December 5, 2016 at 12:02PM As promised we're updating the Oscar charts more often. With the first avalanche of awardage the ground is shifting, if not quite seismically. It's been a very good week for three things in particular: Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea, and Isabelle Huppert ... and even a good week for, um, Hacksaw Ridge. And you'll see a new lock or two on a few of the charts.
Awards season giveth and awards season taketh away...
