...and still more film prizes!

After the jump, as we're trying to catch up* - London Critics Circle, Toronto Film Critics Association, The Black Film Critics Circle, Kansas City Film Critics Circle, New York Film Critics Online, North Texas Film Critics Association, Atlanta Film Critics Circle,  and Hawaii Film Critics Society. But for a bit of a change of pace in that it's talking about scores and original songs, let's start things off with a non-critics award "Hollywood Music and Media"...

"Mank" leads the Critics Choice Nominations

Mank and Minari led the 26th annual Critics Choice nominations with 12 and 10 nods respectively. The ceremony this year will be held on March 7th on the CW with Taye Diggs hosting (and if you missed the TV nominations, those came out a couple of weeks ago). "Da 5 Bloods" leads the Online Film Critics Society nominations... but fails to win

The Online Film Critics Society, founded in 1997 back when there was still a noticeable divide between print and web (there's zero difference anymore... it's only size and reputation of outlets since everything is online) have announced their nominations for the film year. More critics prizes: St Louis, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Denver, and Houston

Here's five more groups of prizes from critics groups that have announced in the past handful of days. Chloe Zhao continues her total sweep of Best Director prizes for Nomadland, an achievement we haven't seen in quite some time. Generally there's one award where someone steamrolls but it's usually in one of the acting categories. Promising Young Woman, Trial of the Chicago 7, Soul, First Cow, and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom also do well in this week's regional critics haul...

National Society of Film Critics choose "Nomadland"

by Nathaniel R

After LAFCA and the NYFCC, the NSFC completes what is essentially the holy trinity of American critics prizes for films. For the latter half of the 20th century these were the three that would get all the press. In the past two decades their influence has not waivered, exactly, but has become less visible. With 30 critics groups now voicing their opinions each year (the bulk of which formed after the year 2000) it's more important for films and performances to have a plurality of voices... unending FYC campaign noise. While LAFCA, NYFCC, and NSFC don't differ a lot this year they all chose separate films for their top prize, LAFCA went with Steve McQueen's collection of five telefilms Small Axe, NYFCC went with First Cow, and the NSFC chose Nomadland (which has been the most dominant with regional prizes...
