An "Unbroken" Centennial and more...

Jack O'Connell in Unbroken (2014)On this day in history as it (mostly) relates to showbiz...

1837 Michigan becomes a State. For a long time it was a beauty but recently hit its all time nadir when the GOP controlled government began poisoning the children in Flint. Somehow Michiganders did not vote them out of office. The earth is doomed
1880 WW II's General MacArthur is born in Little Rock. He'll later be played in the movies and on TV by stars as esteemed and beloved as Gregory Peck (MacArthur), Liam Neeson (Operation Chromite), and Henry Fonda (Collision Course: Truman vs MacArthur)
1892 Bessie Coleman is born in Texas. Becomes the first female African American pilot and the first American woman to hold an international pilot licencse. Where's her biopic? Today's Google Doodle is in her honor
1917 Louis Zamperini Centennial today! His WW II story of survival starring Jack O'Connell is told in Angelina Jolie's movie Unbroken (2014)

more after the jump including Paul Newman and the Golden Globes...

LifeRide Celebrities Are ♥️

While there are surely terrible things about being famous one of the things that is not terrible at all (unless you're just a negative person who can always find a dark cloud) is that fame gives you such massive platform to do good in the world. With a built in audience charitable appearances, fundraising ability, and fighting for pet causes are all so much easier!

Currently there are a bunch of celebrities doing the multi-city Kiehl's LifeRide for AmfAR, The Foundations for AIDS Research (which started August 3rd and runs through August 14th, ending in Philadelphia) including actors Jay Ellis (The Game), JR Bourne and Ian Bohen (Teen Wolf), Kurt Yaeger (new series Quarry), Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls), and three... uh... longtime personal favorites of mine:  Gilles Marini (Sex & The City), Teddy Sears (Masters of Sex, The Flash, Dollhouse) and Michiel Huisman (Black Book, Wild, Game of Thrones). More photos after the jump...

HBO’s LGBT History: Sex and the City (2008, 2010)

After a week off (festivals sure do take it outta you, but did you catch up on all of our fun NYFF coverage?), we're back to our regularly scheduled programming. Last we spoke, I howled in laughter watching Curb Your Enthusiasm’s “pre-gay” kid, Greg in that show’s current series finale (there’s always rumors they’ll make more episodes, but Larry David seems to be in no rush). This week, we continue looking at another HBO comedy staple, the endlessly parodied, needlessly dismissed Sarah Jessica Parker series, Sex and the City...
