Carrie Coon is stealth one of the greats, whether she's just being an awesome actor, politically goodhearted person, sharing her cinephilia online, or just being funny as in the tweet above. You should follow her on Twitter where she regularly shares what movies she's watching (she watches a lot of movies so naturally we're endeared to her) and on Instagram. I once saw her and her husband playwright/actor Tracy Letts get into a cab here in Manhattan and it was such a stupid thrill seeing them in the wild since they're both such brilliant artists.

Proving once again that the public will turn out for movies with superpowers and little else, Morbius opened to $39 million despite terrible buzz and unfriendly reviews. Of course it helped that the studios are hardly releasing any big movies of late so there wasn't much competition for eyeballs. But the big story this weekend was what was happening in limited release...

Happy Centennial to the composer Elmer Bernstein. Bernstein was born 100 years ago today in NYC to Ukrainian immigrant parents. As a teenager he hoped to become a concert pianist. Fate had different plans; He became a legendary film composer instead. His A list breakthrough came in the mid 50s with the back-to-back success of The Man with the Golden Arm (his first Oscar nomination) and Cecil B DeMille's The Ten Commandments. CLÁUDIO: April Fools' Day is always a frustrating time to be on Twitter. From nobodies to reputable sources, countless accounts share announcements of fake projects, preposterous stuff that nonetheless feels plausible in our current paradigm. One of those jokey posts reported an American remake of Drive My Car. Though false it rings true; "Foreign" awards season juggernauts are often retrofitted for Hollywood versions. Though they haven't yet seen the light of day, Toni Erdmann, Parasite, and Another Round are all to be remade as English-language features and series.

And yet, outrage couldn't last when someone mentioned a brilliant idea – Oscar Isaac in the Hidetoshi Nishijima role! Maybe because I love great acting, perhaps because I like to imagine Isaac being all sad and hot, my curiosity was piqued.
