Chris Gives Thanks !

Greetings from Chris, lovely readers! This Thanksgiving, I'm grateful for our faithful readers, our feisty team, and our relentlessly kind and passionate leader Nathaniel. In my estimation, this has been a great enough year to just be thankful for such a bevy of riches - but here's a few of the things earning my gratitude:

... the many unsung ensembles hosting their own feasts but especially Don't Think Twice, Little Men, and Love and Friendship.

... André Holland smoking in Moonlight. It's the hottest sex scene of the year and it's between camera and actor. May we all find someone that looks at us the way that the camera looks at Holland...

... winterwear in Maggie's Plan. Julianne Moore's bonkers sweaters and Greta Gerwig's lovely/stuffy plaid coat brilliantly reflect character, but also make me yourn for snow.

... the brilliant Mark Harris on Twitter.

... Olivia Colman's hilarious straightfaced cruelty in both The Lobster and Amazon's Fleabag. No one plays judgment and control quite like her while blending in wicked humor.

... the verbal showdowns between Tracey Letts and Logan Lerman in Indignation, AKA the real fireworks this summer.

... the absorbing and unsettling sound design of brisk indies Krisha, The Fits, and The Witch. These prove that creating an aural central nervous system isn't limited to budget or genre to nerve-fraying effect.

... Drag Race alums Katya Zamolodchikova and Trixie Mattel's YouTube series "UNHhhh". Don't tell me you S.R. Hadden't already seen this series and its endless Contact references!

... Judith Light in the season 3 finale of Transparent. Who'd have thought that an Alanis Morisette track could make me weep?

... the future. Dark times may be ahead, but art can sustain and unite us in the hardest of times. 2017 promises a Goldie Hawn comeback, Sofia Coppola's The Beguiled, and a Young Adult Theron/Reitman/Cody reunion with Tully.

Chris Feil comes to The Film Experience from Columbus, Ohio! His "Recommended For You" and "Movies from the 90s with a Strong Female Lead" Netflix categories are not-so-shockingly similar. With a B.A. in Theatre, Chris adores actors and their process. He has endless enthusiasm for board games, donuts, and WALL•E. Yaaas to the "lights" of 2016: Moonlight and Judith Light, who really was marvelous in the closing scene of the season finale. Love & Friendship also was choice, and delicious. Happy Thanksgiving, TFE.
