Said it before and I'll say it again: I love the way you pose the Carol ladies next to each other.

Don’t remind me Glenn wore gold please! Haha.

Scarlett’s dress wowed me - best dressed of the decade.

Other wins are Lupita, J-Law in red and J-Law in pink and meryl in the black and white number.

Very rarely are the nominees equivalent with ‘best dressed’

February 13, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterMorganisaqt

More trivia: only 1 winner from a Best Picture winner (Lupita). 8 nominees.

2014 - great year for style and range of colour. Streep in a Tuxedo, Dern in chainmail, Pike in red, and all the other nominees looking very good.
2010 - my runner-up year chiefly for Helena Bonham Carter and Annette Benning making all too rare appearances. (Also Amy Adams looks good in blue.)
Btw. this tradition is a fabulous overview. Thanks for all your hard work.
I doubt Meryl Streep will repeat her run of 50% during the next decade, however with her you just never know.

February 13, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterLadyEdith

Either 2015 or 2011 are the best in terms of style.
This year was the worst.... so meh, not a single one of those looks is a 'WOW' moment.
Saoirse in 2015 is the all time best of this decade.

Dear Florence, you're tiny. You can't wear that many ruffles.

Glancing quickly, the mid-years, especially 2015 seem to pop the most.

Giving us the content we want and deserve <3

Some thoughts:

- Blanchett very clearly takes best dressed out of this bunch for me on both nominations; her Blue Jasmine dress was hands down my favorite out of all Best Actress winners this decade, and her Carol dress is stunning!!

- Most of these red gowns (JLaw x2, McTeer, Davis, Janney, Streep)...are pretty....but essentially look identical? LOVED Weisz's look and wish more gals would show up to the Oscars in bolder dresses vs. the more conventional.

- On that note, I feel like so many ladies go safe for the Oscars vs. the red carpet events in the lead-up. For example, I think of Gaga's Venice annd Globes looks when I think of her time on the circuit that year, and her showing at the Oscars was so remarkably conventional than I'd have expected for her.

- Thanks to this post I now know that Patricia Arquette basically wore the same thing as Meryl during her August: Osage County year.

@Allen
Jennifer Lawrence in 2013 also replicates the style from Michelle Williams in 2011

February 13, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterCésar Gaytán

Allen
Gaga probably wanted something simple that could easily be changed for the live performance of "Shallow".

It’s a tie: 2015 and 2016

February 13, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterDrG

I think 2018 is best because those ladies from "The Favourite" really brought it.

Also, Octavia is always wonderful and she has been so good as a nominee - doesn't she seem like she's the best friend in the world? - plus "Ma" was so bonkers that I'm just gonna be a fan of hers forever. She says she sees every Keanu Reeves movie opening weekend? She's my Keanu Reeves and I will support her forever.

February 14, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterRebecca

I wish Laura Dern had worn her 2014 gown this year.

Blanchett was the best-dressed nominee both times she was nominated, but my favorite of all these gowns was Jessica Chastain's 2011 gown. That was an all-timer.

I've also warmed to McDormand's 2017 look, because she is so much herself at these red carpet events.
