Armenia, Canada, Colombia, and Peru announce their Oscar submissions

We have four more submission for Oscar's Best International Feature Film race to share.

CANADA
Remember that nude asshole boyfriend "Fermin" from Alfonso Cuarón's Roma who knocked our heroine up and then abandoned her? The actor who played him, Jorge Antonio Guerrero, could be back in the International Feature Oscar race. Guerrero headlines this year's Canadian Oscar submission Drunken Birds, which is about a man on the run from a cartel leader who relocates to Quebec and hopes to find a woman there who fled from the same cartel. The film, in French and Spanish, comes from Canadian director Ivan Grbovic and just played TIFF...

Albania, Ireland, Kyrgyzstan, Slovenia, and Ukraine choose their Oscar submissions

We have five more Oscar submissions for the Best International Feature Oscar to share, all from countries that have never been nominated. With 13 official contenders we're probably around 15% there -- we don't even have enough "official" contenders for a full finalist list (of 15) yet...

ALBANIA is going with Jonid Jorgji's road trip comedy Three Lions Heading to Venice about filmmakers headed to the festival who meet adult movie actresses on the way, derailing their plans...

Germany submits "I'm Your Man" to the Oscars

Germany, which has long been popular with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced their submission for the 94th Oscars. They're going with the sci-fi flavored romantic comedy I'm Your Man starring British hunk Dan Stevens (who happens to be fluent in German) as an android specifically programmed to make a woman happy. The movie, distributed by Bleecker Street in the US, hits theaters a week from Friday...

What will Spain submit to the Oscars?

Spain, which is Oscar's third favourite country (statistically speaking) in the Best International Feature Film race, will announce their submission on October 5th. In the meantime they have released the names of the three films that they are considering. It's Pedro Almodóvar's melodrama Parallel Mothers versus Fernando León de Aranoa's comedy The Good Boss versus Marcel Barrena's adventure film Mediterráneo. All three of the films are slated for October release in Spain so we don't yet know how the "home team" will react to them. Still this trio of possibilities is interesting for a few fun triva reasons...
