'Ah but the young people are much quicker subjects,' say I who likes the prospect of only having to collect a handful of posters this week.

The 22 year-old star Timothée Chalamet was raised in New York with summers in France (his dad is French hence the accented name and his bilingual-ness). As a professional teen actor his first screen gigs were  recurring roles on Season 4 of "Royal Pains" and Season 2 of HBO's then enormously popular "Homeland" series, both in 2012. He hopped over to the movies very shortly thereafter. Though his feature film debut (Men Women and Children) flopped hard it wasn't long before he became the third youngest guy ever nominated for the Best Actor Oscar just last awards season. His new film Beautiful Boy about a father and son's torturous battle with the son's drug addicition hit theaters today in very limited release with expansions to follow soon given the starpower.

Chalamet turns 23 in December. Will The Academy give him a belated birthday gift in February for Beautiful Boy? The one they should have given him earlier this year? We don't (currently) think so but you never know.

Yes No Maybe So: Beautiful Boy

After a seemingly endless tease, we finally got the trailer for one of the most anticipated films of the year: Amazon Studio's Beautiful Boy.  Based on the memoirs of journalist David Sheff and his son Nic, the film follows David struggling through years of his son's addiction. Oscar-nominated Steve Carell steps into the role of David, while freshly Oscar-nominated Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) plays his son Nic. Let’s dive right in with another addition of Yes, No, Maybe So...

YES

• Love trailers that start out of nowhere!  My guess is that this diner scene is at least two-thirds of the way through the film

• Carell looks to be in a quieter grief-stricken dramatic role, like he had in Last Flag Flying last year.  If that performance is any indication of what to expect, I am in.

• Chalamet has really turned into a Hollywood wunderkind...

Ah... April. It's that time of year when we inevitably make fools of ourselves looooong in advance by predicting the Oscar nominations nearly a full year ahead of time. The 91st Oscars won't be held for another 314 days (February 24th, 2019 if you must know) but it's time we started building the Oscar charts.
