Asked my wife, who's only seen two films in the MCU (Captain America 1 and Thor 2), to name #InfinityWar characters. It went about as well as we expected. pic.twitter.com/ICK8n8geFC
If you missed part one of our massive link roundup to catch up on news and such, that's here. Going a lot shorter for part two
/Film on the 20th anniversary of Boogie Nights This is Not Porn Sigourney Weaver with a pumpkin /i09 Jeff Goldblum riffing on the meaning of "Ragnarok" - I was personally alarmed to see this whole story this morning because I feel like I knew all this classic mythology stuff when I was in diapers and I KNOW we learned some of it in school. Is mythology not taught anymore? Weird cause kids tend to love it (since there are superpowers, monsters, etcetera) Jezebel a fine interview with famous primatologist Jane Goodall about her work, the new documentary about her, and climate change
Film School Rejects 35 things we learned from Edgar Wright's Baby Driver commentary AV Club Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood on filming Gerald's Game, another Stephen King adaptation that people are actually liking (what is happening?) Coming Soon Director Taiki Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, Thor Ragnarok) is very coy about whether or not he'll direct the long gestating live action remake of anime classic Akira but if he does, he won't be casting non-Asians. So if they must make this movie, let's hope he gets the job. Playbill Idina Menzel didn't want to write a memoir so her sister wrote a book about their lives "Voice Lessons: A Sisters Story" /Film Corey Haim & Corey Feldman, teen idols of the late 80s, are getting the Lifetime movie treatment W Magazine Cara Delevingne is now an author ("Mirror Mirror") and a brunette The New Yorker "Everything that I'm afraid might happen now that I've lost my headphones"
Congrats to the MacArthur Genius Grant Winners. The 24 recipients for 2017 have been named who will each receive the grant of $625,000 which is a lot of change for most writers and artists and performers. Celebrities of course make truckloads of money but that's much different than toiling away for your craft in most arts careers. Twenty four recipients from many different kinds of field were chosen so let's just list those in the arts: Annie Baker (playwright), Rhiannon Giddens (musician), Taylor Mac (performance artist ♥︎), Yuval Sharon (opera producer), Tyshawn Sorey (composer), and Jesmyn Ward (writer)
Today's Must Read "I am Diane Keaton's Crisp White Shirt" an imagined monologue by Charlotte Barnett. I can't even describe how much I love this, guys. I love it as hard as Diane Keaton's crying jag in Somethings Gotta Give is long.
I am immaculate, woven by gods from fibers of cotton and Nancy Meyers’ discarded screenplays...

Now he's signed on for a thriller called Hotel Artemis with Jodie Foster and Sofia Boutella EW Anya Taylor-Joy and Maise Williams will play Magik and Wolfsbane in the New Mutants movie. (But it's still so diappointing that the rumor is that the movie is leaving out the Asian member of the original comic book group, Karma. Who also happened to be an LGBT character. Hollywood just loooooves gay erasure and whitewashing. They cannot get enough.) Variety Thom Yorke, of Radiohead fame, hired to score the remake of Suspiria from director Luca Guadagnino NYT Michael Parks, Tarantino favorite and prolific character ever, dies at 77 THR Kenny Miller, B movie actor of 1950s drive-in classics dies at 85 Variety talks to the costume designer of Snatched, dressing for laughs The Playlist remember that Michelle Williams movie Suite Francaise that had Oscar buzz but then sat on a shelf for years? TV BuzzFeed is thankfully keeping this handy list of cancellations and renewals on TV up to date. I'm so sad about The Real O'Neals. I expected American Crime but anthology cancellations hurt less since they come to a natural end each year anyway. Vulture 13 shows that defined dystopian TV before The Handmaid's Tale VF Hollywood Scandal probably ending next season. But will ABC shift their drama strategy away from wealth porn?
And the teaser FINALLY for Top of the Lake Season 2 starring Elisabeth Moss and Nicole Kidman. We couldn't be more excited about it. If you missed season 1 with Elisabeth Moss investigating the disappearance of a young girl and finding a much larger crime that she wasn't expecting you really must catch up with it. Jane Campion's still got it and she still makes riveting human drama rife with feminist implications.

Park guest Robert here! When the Jurassic Park franchise was rebooted in 2015 reception was mixed. There was surely lots of dino chaos to behold, but the movie lacked the spark of the original trilogy.
I was personally horrified that they brought on beloved character actress Judy Greer only to have her be relegated to the worst kind of "worried mom crying on the phone" role. That being said, I love the Jurassic Park films and will no doubt be seeing every sequel that gets ground out of the Hollywood script machine for years to come. I wouldn't say that I was hype for the next installment until I laid my eyes upon the news that JEFF "DR. IAN MALCOM" GOLDBLUM HAS SIGNED ON FOR JURASSIC WORLD 2...
