If I've said it once I've said it a million times (I've definitely said it a million times) -- Jurassic Park is my Star Wars. Lil' Jason saw the original film in the theater thirteen times when it hit in 1993, a record that stood tall until Call Me By Your Name struck fancy twenty-five years later. I was obsessed, and locked myself in for life on seeing all of the sequels no matter what.
Which has become a lot of "no matter what" since every single sequel's been more of a disappointment than the one before. Well, I maybe liked Fallen Kingdom a smidge more than the first Jurassic World, but we're splitting dino-hairs here...
Time for our silly aspirational Instagram fantasy game. Would you rather...
• prepare a turkey with Diane Kruger? • snuggle with Gus Kenworthy and Matt Wilkas in the morning? • live the high life with Constance Wu & Awkwafina? • reflect in the dressing room with Laura Benanti? • reminisce about Goodfellas with Debi Mazar? • bet on a football game with Sam Trammell? • visit Stonehenge with Susan Sarandon? • relaxing with Kate Bosworth? • fly first class with Jeff Goldblum? • eat leftovers with Buffy?
TIFF begins tomorrow (Chris and Nathaniel will both be reporting to give you double the coverage!) but the 75th annual Venice Film Festival is still swinging. It concludes on Saturday September 8th so that's when we'll know who took the coveted Golden Lion (you may recall that a little film called Shape of Water won last year, though their winner is usually far less mainstream).
Alfonso Cuarón, Lee Byung-hun, Nicholas Hoult, Bradley Cooper
But here are the most handsome men in lux menswear we've spotted on the red carpet coverage. Joe Alwyn, Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Mads Mikkelsen, Matthias Schoenaerts and many more are after the jump...
The stylists have (apparently) decreed it. All stars must wear pink or pinkish reds whilst attending the 75th annual Venice Film Festival this year. Lady Gaga has arrived, continuing and perfecting the trend. Her full gown after the jump plus more pink fashion from other beauties. Even the men have joined in...
• Vulture Kathleen Turner in conversation, dishing on Burt Reynolds, William Hurt, Eileen Atkins and more. I had no idea that she didn't like Elizabeth Taylor! That's insane but Turner is always good for a blurb. So frank and funny. • Parade 10 Steve Martin quotes to brighten your day on his birthday • Variety Ruby Rose is the latest actress to quit her social media after online trolling. This time a bizarre she's not gay enough to play a gay character or some nonsense (even though she's been out for years!). When will the madness end and why do we live in such a mean world?
• MNPP the trailer to Gaspar Noe's latest provocation, Climax • Slate a round up of all the shark jokes people made while reporting on The Meg • Film School Rejects Netflix's original film slate for the last few months of this year. It's stacked. • Variety an update of sorts on that Fan Bingbing rumor we told you about. Is China banning her from acting for 3 years? • Variety should the Emmys have even more categories? Acting categories too often combine very disparate skills. • /Film Neill Blomkamp (District 9) is directing a sequel to Robocop, ignoring the other sequels apparently, and he wants Peter Weller to return as star. • VarietyInstant Family, a comedy starring Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg moved up from 2019 to a November bow this year • i09 Jeff Goldblum jigsaw puzzles! • Coming SoonTrain to Busan, the Korean zombie hit, is getting a sequel
Exit Video It's another teaser for Matthew Weiner's new series The Romanoffs. I'm soooo excited for this because I love Weiner AND I have no idea what to expect really even after watching this. Looks like the kind of show that might have instant takes which prove incredibly wrongheaded once you see the show develop.
