Marion Cotillard Wishes Her Haters "A Swift Recovery"

Guillaume, Marion, and First Child a few months backMarion Cotillard has had it with all the press attention she's getting in the Brangelina divorce. Who knows how the rumors about her and Brad started but Allied (opening this Thanksgiving) surely provided the easy optics. The movie stars are playing impossibly beautiful / sneaky deadly / possibly double crossing lovers in Allied (2016) and you could describe Mr & Mrs Smith (2005), the film that brought us Brangelina, in much the same way.

Cotillard released the following pointed statement, which reads like the equivalent of an eye roll crossed with a death glare. She wants you to know that she's perfectly happy with fellow French film star Guillaume Canet, her longtime partner, and also: she's pregnant again with their second child.

The statement in full and a bit more after the jump...

Beauty Break: Cotillard & Pitt in 'Allied'

Manuel here. Have you guys seen the sweeping, swoon-worthy teaser trailer for Robert Zemeckis' Allied? If nothing else, it shows us that Zemeckis understands that Marion Cotillard and Brad Pitt are timeless movie stars whose faces deserve all the beautiful costumes and close-ups they get. The entire trailer is giving me Casablanca vibes even if I'm still unsure what the hell is going on other than these two look like they walked out of a 1940s war film.

Rather than do a regular YNMS for the trailer, I wanted to leave you with 8 moments from the teaser that made me gay gasp...

Cotillard in period garb will never get old. And that red lipstick? Divine...

Marion Cotillard and Brad Pitt Got Us Thinking

Released exclusively through People Magazine

by Murtada

There are a couple of ways to look at this first released picture from the Marion Cotillard - Brad Pitt November release, Allied. Your mileage might depend on your feelings about the actors. So if you like them, you might be saying glamourous movie stars! Pretty period costumes! Why isn’t it November yet?. If not, your reaction might be that the picture is a bit posed. Maybe a bit too studied. Even cheesy...

It’s only 'It’s Only the End of the World'

Josh here, reflecting on the backlash against Xavier Dolan now he’s seen It’s Only the End of the World at the Sydney Film Festival

In what must be a true sign of success, Xavier Dolan was booed and savaged by critics at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year when his latest film It’s Only the End of the World premiered. The reaction was swift not just against his film, but against the filmmaker himself. Dolan address this, and reacted strongly to The Playlist which remarked “It's simply impossible to believe that a story this stridently self-pitying could not refer, more or less explicitly, to writer/director Dolan himself… It suggests a level of martyred self-involvement on Dolan's part that is tantamount to a persecution complex”. This was just one of many vicious reactions online and especially on twitter, against the film but then, in turn, against Dolan for defending himself against criticism.

The apparent taboo of a filmmaker reading, and responding to a critic was a major sore point. As though a critic should get the final word. It’s hard here not to recall the brilliant monologue from Ratatouille...
