Today's Watch
I don't know if you've seen this web interview series "RuPaul Drives" The episodes always features a sublebrity of some kind in the car with Ru. This is the best episode yet primarily because John Waters gives good quote and interview shows are always dependent on the special guest. I so wish he'd make movies again! (They seem to agree that Female Trouble and Serial Mom are the fan's favorites)

And no, I haven't forgotten that I was supposed to be writing up RuPaul's Drag Race each week. I'm just three weeks behind now. Sigh. I'll post something tomorrow for sure to catch up on it.

Pixie Sticks and Cap'n Crunch. Holla.

It's Back to School Month at TFE

Hello, lovelies. Beau here, fixating on a tiny moment from one of my favorite films.

John Hughes was a Godsend to me growing up. From the ages of 14 through 17, hardly a weekend went by where I wasn't revisiting one of his key entries over the span of a twenty year career. These viewings alternated between Weird Science, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Sixteen Candles, and The Breakfast Club. It's remarkable to me that we've managed to survive over ten years of remakes and rehashes, and no one has dared  touch any of his material.

Breaking Link

Troublemakers why you couldn't remake The Breakfast Club. Sad but true!
Press Play Ali Arikan's "end of message" on corresponding with Roger Ebert over the years
David Poland the second part of his goodbye to Roger Ebert
Guardian the films that defined the Thatcher Era in Britain from Chariots of Fire (1981) to My Beautiful Laundrette (1986)

Dreamweaver queer artists recently paid tribute to Sigourney Weaver here at a special gallery exhibit in NYC. Why I wasn't warned of this and could therefore help spead the word, I do not know. Love my Sigweavie.
The Advocate... Sigourney Weaver responded to the tribute.

It means so much to me that my work has been relevant and encouraging to the LGBT community. I support each and every one of you to be exactly and gloriously who you are and all you can be. The planet needs your individuality and talent and power to make it a more humane and respectful and fantastic place, where everyone is valued and celebrated equally.

Cinematic Corner sees visual parallels between Pulp Fiction and Breaking Bad
LA Times Architectural renderings for the Academy's massive forthcoming museum and theater. I just got a boner in advance for 2017.
Twitter if you wanna see what Timothy Olymphant looked like on his college swim team
Empire Oscar Isaac, currently quite in demand, might join the cast of Ex-Machina from writer/producer turned director Alex Garland (The Beach, Dredd)
In Contention keeps us abreast of what's happening with the MTV Movie Awards. I always forget about those but they were so fun ages and ages ago before they got completely coopted by the mainstream. I mean Jesus, in one of their first years they gave a prize to Wes Anderson before anyone knew who he was.

Podcast: Lincoln, Pitch Perfect, and the Supporting Actress Oscar

Weeeeee're ba-aaack.

Katey and Joe attended the sneak Lincoln preview at the NYFF and lived to tell the cel-phone free tale. Nick forces yours truly, Nathaniel, into an aca-awkward confession and the only movie that everyone has seen is Pitch Perfect which is clearly 100% appropriate for an Oscar-focused podcast. Certain to sweep!

Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Anna Kendrick being so over it in Pitch Perfect.
  • Sally Field being over the top of it in Lincoln.
  • Helen Hunt being on top of it (John Hawkes) in The Sessions.
  • Nicole Kidman killing it in The Paperboy.
  • Supporting Actress doubling up on it.
  • Elle Fanning giggling through it for Ginger & Rosa
  • Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Molly Ringwald (???) and More!

You can download the podcast on iTunes or listen to it right here. The more the merrier in this conversation so join in in the comments.
