Dumb Remakes
Not going to link to any stories but in case you haven't heard Hollywood has announced two of the stupidest ideas for remakes ever: The Night of the Hunter (1955) and The Others (2001). Good luck topping the masterpiece of the former and good luck with your "twist" that the entire world already knows with the latter. It's so silly. Remake something that isn't perfect as is! This is not complicated.

Enough with these pointless remakes. "The Others" is a perfect movie, cast, script, direction- there is no way you could improve on it.
Natalie Wood has been my favorite MOVIE STAR since I was a kid. She may not have been the most consistently good actress, But when she was good... she was great.
She was a star in the old sense of Hollywood. It would have been so interesting to see what the next phase of her work would have been.

For me... her death was not accidental... nor murder. But careless drinking and fighting.

A remake of The Others an Night of the Hunter? OH FUCK NO!!!!! Those are 2 films that don't need to be remade.

Nat: Remaking Night of The Hunter. Hi, Mr. Oh So Intelligent Hollywood Producer, why don't you remake this rusty scalpel I'm holding? And then maybe stab yourself with it? You'd spend less money, and make more, by just doing a wide re-release of the original. I'd GO to that. (And, also, honestly, expecting a lot of that in 2021, especially early on.)
I really don't get the point of remaking movies that do not need to be remake. Remakes have always been part of Hollywood history- but before there was a logical reason- silents remade as sound films, b&w white films remade in color and later in wide screen or because of censorship problems some film remake could be more daring in their content. Now they will remake anything for no other reason that it's a marketable title and don't get me started in pointless sequels. Disney seems specially determine to destroy their animated classic library .

I generally agree but the themes of Night of the Hunter are just as relevant today. With a smart script and the right director, I could see this working. Of course, I'd rather see Universal produce a new socially conscious thriller from a new talent.
As for The Others? Yeah, no charitable reading of that one.
Merritt Wever is a treasure, I feel like she's going to be around for awhile. I always thought her character on 'Nurse Jackie' felt real and original, and I've been a fan since.
A remake of Night of the Hunter could work if it were to be helmed by an artist, someone with a real vision as to how they want to present the material.Someone like say, David Lynch.I'd def be interested in that! (And no I don't think that's at all happening, just using him to prove my point). But if it's just some rando director doing this on assignment from say, Blumhouse, I'd def feel Do Not Bother!

As for THE OTHERS, it will be 20 years since the original by the time any remake comes around which is, sadly, par for the course. Maybe if we just repeatedly keep talking about the twist in the lead up to the release of the original movie (when they announce a cast, when they release a trailer, on opening weekend) and they'll be like... they're trying to sabotage us! It'll be fun.

I know this will get lost, but yeah, I'm one of the people who got the phone call yesterday saying I will be furloughed. No salary for an indefinite period, and no guarantee there will be a return to work. Sigh.

Sorry to hear Dave, but it's for the best for everybody and if the system is the one the people desire it will recover over time. Just don't turn bitter and attack those under you like i've seen so many redundant and furloughs doing. Punch up to stop inequality! (I'm sure you're not one of them, but the stresses of covid19 seem to have even the middle or lower middle attack those under them instead of those in power. Or so i've seen in extremely startling numbers)

Night of the Hunter was already remade, for tv I think, with Richard Chamberlain. Just been watching Scorsese's remake of Cape Fear, and it's a damn fine film.
