Charlize Lands Her Punches

by Nathaniel R

W Magazine is going all out with Charlize Theron at the moment. She's on the cover with a new interview, a gorgeous (what else) photoshoot, and there's also a retrospective of her other most compelling photos for the magazine in years pas -- who can forget that photoshoot with Michael Fassbender for Prometheus (*melts from the heat*).

Her new action flick Atomic Blonde has the unenviable task of following Mad Max Fury Road into theaters but thus far word is that it is a bonafide thrill machine as action flicks go. It opens on July 28th so expect Charlize to be everywhere for the next month including right here where we'll be sure to celebrate her career... albeit a little closer to the release.

For now let's revel in this catfighty, rather than catty, anecdote about that time she punched Teri Hatcher in the face in a fight scene in her debut 2 Days in the Valley (1996) when she was just 20 years old:

I hit her really bad....

And because it was Teri Hatcher, who was a star, and I was this bleached-blonde-Amazonian, catsuit-wearing nobody who was punching her in the face, I was like a wild animal. Back then I didn’t know how to hone in my energy and I was knocking over lights. I had no concept of a set. I connected right with Teri Hatcher’s face. I felt terrible about it. I had no money and sent her some cheap beer the next day. Sorry, Teri.

Best Actress - April Foolish Oscar Predix

We always save the best category for last.

The April Foolish Oscar predictions are officially complete with the BEST ACTRESS chart which has just gone up. So many talent women. So much luscious actressing to come. We cannot wait to see these performances, wherever they happen to fall on the chart. Predictions are for fun and do not indicate who we're rooting for ever -- we try not to root for anything without actually seeing the films because "may the best performance win!" and we don't know what that will be yet, now do we? This year the April Foolish crystal ball says "all previous nominees" but that's largely because it does not appear to be a year where many women who aren't previous nominees have managed to land leading roles. But we shall see.

Answer me these questions three:

1. Which actress's double feature are you most excited to see? The busy choices are: Jessica Chastain (A Woman Walks Ahead, Molly's Game), Kate Winslet (Wonder Wheel, The Mountain Between Us), Sally Hawkins (Maudie, The Shape of Water), and Charlize Theron (Tully, Atomic Blonde). Let's leave the very busy Nicole Kidman out of this survey since the size of her roles aren't totally obvious this year.

2. Do you think Annette Bening has momentum due to that near-miss last season (those sometimes build goodwill) or do you think 20th Century Women is irrelevant to this year's prediction equation?

3. Which performance are you convinced will be great sight unseen? ...and vice versa if you're feeling irritable today.

Is Charlize a Chameleon?

Check out this hot video from Fandor

The Chameleonic Charlize Theron from Fandor on Vimeo.

Fun video. We lurve us some Charlize Theron but, honestly, aren't almost all modern actresses chameleons in this subtle way (different wigs & haircuts in every movie?)

Who would you define as a chameleon when it comes to acting?

Charlize in F8 of the Furious

Manuel here to kick off this week with a question all of you may be better equipped to answer than I: how good slash bad does Fate of the Furious (aka F8) look? I have to admit I haven't seen a single one of those films so all my knowledge of them comes from other people discussing them as either the best in post-modern Hollywood spectacle or the worse in contemporary shoot-em-and-'splode-em style Baytastic blockbusters. But even I couldn't resist seeing what Ms Charlize Theron was bringing to the table.

Young Adult Reunion: Now with Pictures

by Murtada

As previously mentioned, the three principals of Young Adult - writer Diablo Cody, director Jason Reitman and star Charlize Theron - are reuniting for a new movie. Now there is evidence it will only be a matter of months before we can see it. Tully started shooting in Vancouver and there are pictures to prove it. This is cause for some excitement around these parts where there are many Young Adult fans, no?

The new comedy tells the story of Marlo (Theron) — a mother of three, including a newborn — who is gifted a night nanny by her brother. Hesitant at the extravagance at first, she comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (played by Mackenzie Davis). You might know Davis from The Martian (2015) or the AMC TV show Halt and Catch Fire, this though looks to possibly be her big breakout, playing the title character and all. Ron Livingston - who will always be remembered as Carrie's awful boyfriend Jack Berger Post-It Man in Sex and the City- is also in the cast. Let's hope he's not as awful this time, if he's playing Theron's partner.

What do you think of Charlize's new look, padding or pounds?
