Happy Birthday, Jessica Lange (& Nina Foch)

by Cláudio Alves

Like Mark said in his Veronica Cartwright tribute, this 4/20 is an essential date for actressexuals... among others. After all, we celebrate the horror queen's 75th birthday and that of Jessica Lange as well. Initially, I thought about writing about the star's upcoming adaptation of O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night, but that film seems trapped in some nebulous distribution limbo. By all accounts, production wrapped in late 2022 after a brief halt due to financing issues. Since then, there's been hardly any news, and Lange herself speculated it might not yet be finished in a Vulture interview. Let's hope we don't have another Blue Sky situation in our hands, though that farrago resulted in a Best Actress Oscar.

So, instead of dwelling on that mystery, why not remember The Film Experience's collective love for Jessica Lange? Going through the site, I came up with a selection of write-ups worth revisiting, plus some bonus Nina Foch to mark her centennial…

Final Emmy Predictions and Creative Arts Emmy Winners

By: Christopher James

For those who watched the Golden Globes, the TV landscape seemed to only have three shows. Succession took home all drama specific prizes. The Bear pulled off a similar hat trick on the comedy side. Finally, Beef swept the Limited Series categories. With the delayed Emmys finally happening, one may think they’ll see the same people and the same speeches repeat one week later.

However, keep in mind the Emmys voting period was from August 17 to 28, meaning the winners were technically chosen five months ago. Like a time capsule, all will be revealed on Monday, Jan 15th. We got our first clue as to how the Television Academy voted this past week at the Creative Arts Ceremony.

See how these categories could clue us into the Emmy winners, who we are predicting for the Primetime Emmy Awards and a full list of Creative Arts Winners after the jump.

Emmys 2023: What if TV Movies had their own awards? (Key Stats + Personal Ballot)

by Juan Carlos Ojano

TV movies (now that mostly means streaming titles) have returned to favor amongst Emmy voters after a nadir of interest last season. All of the nominees for Outstanding Television Movie have received nominations outside that category - a stark difference from last season. This year, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (8 noms) and Prey (6) lead the pack, with Hocus Pocus 2 (3) and Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas and Fire Island (2 each) trailing behind. Even Boston Strangler got a single nom despite being absent in the Television Movie category. Frankly, this should have been the case for the past few years - especially beginning with the pandemic year/s - since this category has registered a steady uptick of eligible films.

Stats, graphs, and a personal ballot after the jump...

Emmy Category Analysis: Lead Actor in a Limited Series (2023)

By Christopher James

Will serial killers or Weird Al Yankovic take home an Emmy this year?

The Lead Actor in a Limited Series race has only gotten more competitive throughout the year. Evan Peters performance as the titular character in Netflix's Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was pegged as the early frontrunner in this race. He now faces off against recent Oscar nominee Steven Yeun for the critically acclaimed Netflix show Beef. Other challengers are also very much in the hunt. Who is going to take home the win? Let's examine the field...

Emmy Category Analysis: Lead Actor in a Drama Series (2023)

By Christopher James

Jeremy Strong has won Lead Actor in a Drama Series once before, for the second season of Succession in 2020.

Another day, another category that Succession has dominated. Of the six slots in the category for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Succession takes up half the category. However, this isn’t necessarily a huge bonus for the show. The other Drama Series acting categories seem relatively locked up (take the time to prepare speeches, Sarah Snook, Matthew MacFadyen, and Jennifer Coolidge). Yet, the Lead Actor in a Drama Series race feels much more open. Multiple Succession cast members have narratives for a win, while the non-Succession men are putting up a great fight.

Who will prevail in this tight race? Let’s take a look at the episode submissions...
