Saoirse Preps Her Oscar Loss Face

Chris here, finding ways to cope wherever I can with the increasingly likelihood Lady Bird lands no Oscars in two weeks. And it looks like Saoirse Ronan is preparing herself as well, but with much more good humor. Granted she has lost twice before and has to be one of the cheeriest good sports among this year's acting lineup, so we suspect she (and team Lady Bird) will fare just fine. Have a laugh with Saoirse as she shows off her "Oscar Loser Face" and ponder if I might be wrong: does Lady Bird have a shot at winning any of its five Oscar nominations?

GALECA Winners: Call Me By Your Given Name. "I gave it to myself"

by Nathaniel R

Dance party! "Call Me By Your Name" wins yet more prizesThe Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association have spoken and it probably won't surprise you to hear that they were "wilde" for Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird, and Big Little Lies. As a member of the organization my only really gripe is that there are too many multiple winners (three prizes for Jordan Peele, two for Timothée Chalamet, two for Kate McKinnon, Call Me By Your Name winning both film categories) which can feel like overkill when there are so many beautiful achievements each year worth honoring. That's why some festival jury rules or some awards that are forbidden to give a film or performance multiple prizes make a kind of sense to me even though everyone gets up in arms about those kind of rules.

But, regardless, the winners are listed after the jump as well as Kate McKinnon's musical performance winning SNL skit...

FYC: Allison Janney in "I,Tonya"

by Seán McGovern

First things first: Lady Bird hasn't been released over here in the UK yet.
Secondly: Are you really going to begrudge Allison Janney an Oscar?
Then this FYC, by all accounts, is an unbiased endorsement of Allison Janney for Best Supporting Actress.

Allison Janney, as Tonya Harding's mother, in any other year, would have Film Twitter and Gay Twitter right behind her, and yet we hesitate. Janney is razor-sharp as LaVona Golden, whose love is more brutal than merely just tough. But as we have determined, this year there's a problem, and it's the problem of parallels..

Lady Bird Eye Candy

Jason from MNPP here to goose our mid-afternoons real quick with that there brand new Entertainment Weekly cover image of Lady Bird's superstar trifecta of Oscar nominees Laurie Metcalf, Saoirse Ronan, and the Creator herself, Greta Gerwig. Love the silver, love the talent, love love love. What do you guys think - can Lady Bird win Best Picture? Better question - can Lady Bird win anything?

(I mean besides Team Experience's Awards, because we have sense.)
