Yes No Maybe So: "Boy Erased"

by Nathaniel R

Another Oscar hopeful trailer coming at you. Focus Features will begin the platform release of  Boy Erased this November 2nd which is of course a prime Oscar date. December is sometimes too late but November is a sweet spot, rarely too early nor too late exactly if the film is high profile enough with Oscar pedigree. Not that November is easy. There will be a ton of competition for media attention.

We now have the poster with Lucas Hedges praying for a second Oscar nomination to release him of this gay burden? And the trailer has arrived too. The buzz is already strong for the acting which is no surprise with the trio of Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman, and Russell Crowe jerking the tears... but can the film itself also impress? Three Questions for Nicole Kidman's Birthday

We went all out for Nicole Kidman's 50th birthday last year with 50 Appropriate Ways to Celebrate so this year on her 51st (happy birthday diva!) we'll keep it simpler.

Answer me these questions three in the comments:

  1. What's your favorite performance of hers that isn't from her legend-making 2001-2004 run (i.e. The Others-Moulin Rouge!-The Hours-Cold Mountain-Dogville-Birth what a genius run that was!)
  2. What single scene -- minus the opera seen in Birth --pops into your head the most when her name is invoked?
  3. What's a performance of hers that you haven't seen (she works so much you're surely missing something!) that you're most curious about?

and if you're on twitter go really crazy and do the 10 question meme

Today we got our very first glimpse of Nicole as Aquaman's queen mother Atlanna on the Entertainment Weekly cover to the left. But with this exciting news comes the realization that the film... looks really promising? Perhaps DC can shed its Batman/Superman woes (if not match their Wonder Woman highs) thanks to director James Wan and his long proven ability to thrill. Wan has previously given us horror greats Insidious and The Conjuring, not to mention Furious 7, the most beloved of that particular franchise.

With this cover comes a slew of new images, and I have thoughts...

'We're gonna score-ore-ore tonight. We're gonna score-ore-ore to-niii-ight 🎵'

omg. Big Little Lies went bowling! Okay so who won? Who was throwing gutter balls? And who was pulling off miraculous spares? Who sang a bar from Grease 2's "Score Tonight"? Your theories in the comments please!

HBO Pays Up

By Spencer Coile

In addition to its already anticipated second season, the impacts of Big Little Lies are reaching far and wide – in this case, from the pocketbooks of its network. HBO executive Casey Bloys explains that in light of the Times Up Movement, as well as insistence from series star Reese Witherspoon, the network went through a process to ensure equal pay for each of its stars… from every single series. Bloys explains:
