Film Bitch Awards: Gold, silver, and bronze medals in 40 categories!

Hello dear readers. My own pet project each year is, as you know, the Film Bitch Awards. I take them so seriously (though they're meant to be fun) and I'm deeply appreciative that so many of you have have enjoyed them over the years. There are 40 categories and it takes awhile but they're all up now.

The two new and final pages involve memorable characters of the year (divas, heroes, villains, sexpots) and favourite minutes from the film year whether that be musical moments, action setpieces, sex scenes, credit sequences. Hope you enjoy.

Once all categories were tabulated, Power of the Dog and The Green Knight led the nominations with 13 and 12 citations, respectively. In these "extra" categories, due to their nature, we always see increases from the more extroverted pictures if you will (action, fantasy, comedy, musicals, etcetera) which is how The Green Knight made such a leap forward. Review: No fun to be had in 'Morbius'

Too silly to take seriously, but too serious to be any fun, Daniel Espinosa's Morbius suffers from a lack of vision and commitment from its stars and filmmakers. Jared Leto stars as Dr. Michael Morbius, a brilliant scientist suffering from a rare blood disease that has been wrecking his body since childhood. Dr. Morbius is supported by his colleague Dr. Martin Bancroft (Adria Arjona) and his best friend Milo (Matt Smith), who also suffers from the same blood disease.

Morbius attempts to cure himself by using the genetic mapping of vampire bats to compliment his own DNA. You can guess that the experiments go array giving Morbius a form of vampirism...

An appeal to the Academy (and the wonder of Lady Gaga)

The 94th Academy Awards were marked by a scene that will surely live in infamy, one of those immortal Oscar moments destined to overshadow everything else about the ceremony, its winners, and the overall season. Whatever one might think about it, AMPAS wasn't to blame for it. However, there's no way to deny their responsibility for the night's other failings. Indeed, The Slap wasn't the reason I'd call the 94th Academy Awards the worst ceremony of my lifetime. That would be its overall contempt for the art of the movies. This came through in the ceremony in ways that Nathaniel and Eric have already written about.

And yet, hope is everlasting.  The 94th Academy Awards ended on a positive note that might point us towards a better future, a return to form...

The 5 Best Oscar speeches from Sunday night...

When it comes to the 94th Academy Awards, the exclusion of eight categories from the live ceremony will always cast a dark shadow over the proceedings. This is especially true when considering the evening's best speeches. As it happens, a good percentage of them are unavailable to us, existing only in the edited versions that ABC aired. Riz Ahmed gave a powerful speech, but it's hard not to notice that Aneil Karia's words were utterly excised from the final edit. Other highlights include Joe Walker with the night's funniest acceptance and Alberto Mielgo's loving tribute to the art of animation…
