After a seemingly endless tease, we finally got the trailer for one of the most anticipated films of the year: Amazon Studio's Beautiful Boy. Based on the memoirs of journalist David Sheff and his son Nic, the film follows David struggling through years of his son's addiction. Oscar-nominated Steve Carell steps into the role of David, while freshly Oscar-nominated Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) plays his son Nic. Love trailers that start out of nowhere! My guess is that this diner scene is at least two-thirds of the way through the film
Carell looks to be in a quieter grief-stricken dramatic role, like he had in Last Flag Flying last year. If that performance is any indication of what to expect, I am in.

We lost interest in the MTV Movie Awards during the looooong stretch of them turning into the (which year is this?) blur of franchise awards with Harry's Twilight Hunger Games. But let's check back in since nominees were announced a few days ago and voting is now open.
And Oops! spoke to soon in the previous post on the GLAAD Awards. The GLAAD honor wasn't the last hurrah for Call Me By Your Name. Timothée Chalamet, the internet's current boyfriend, is up for an MTV Movie Award for his performance. That he's up against Rey in Star Wars and T'Challa in Black Panther indicates that he'll lose given that the public votes on these awards and that movie earned basically a ha'penny when compared to its competition. But hey, we're part of the public. We can vote now! Because the MTV Awards have a school year schedule, Avengers Infinity War (April 2018) is competing with Wonder Woman (June 2017) for best movie though we all know Black Panther will win. If you thought that after the Oscars you’d never hear about Call Me By Your Name, think again. The movie is now out on DVD but that is not why it’s in the headlines once again. Oscar winning screenwriter James Ivory would just not let his displeasure with the non-nudity in the film die. We are all for a true legend like Ivory to say whatever the fuck he wants, whenever he wants. So we are all in for his recent interview that's making the rounds now.
In the CMBYN cultural wars of last Oscar season there are two camps. The first think that it lessens the power of its story by shying away from explicit nudity in its sex scenes. The second think that was the right aesthetic choice for the story and that the film is not “coy” because it shows Armie Hammer wiping cum from his chest.
