10th Anniversary: A SERIOUS MAN

"I have never seen a film that mixes laugh-out-loud comedy so intimately with dead serious philosophical questioning. It packs so much into its short runtime. " - Dr strange

"This movie is one of my favorites - Michael Stuhlbarg the biggest reason, he's so heartbreakingly fantastically good in everything." -Rebecca

Over & Overs: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

In this new series, members of Team Experience wax rhapsodic on films they've never been able to stop watching. Here's Lynn Lee...

Conventional wisdom holds that Raiders of the Lost Ark, the O.G. Indiana Jones, is also the best Indiana Jones.  Yet the Indy installment I love the most is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which I’ve watched more times than I can count and can practically quote from beginning to end.  It’s one of my cinematic comfort food go-tos. I can count on it to put a smile on my face and – perhaps more surprisingly – a tear in my eye.

I suspect my deep affection for The Last Crusade is at least partly rooted in the fact that it was the first Indiana Jones movie I saw, and the only one I ever saw in a theater...

Streaming Roulette: Netflix & Prime for January

Curiously Netflix and Prime have no recent movies available to start 2019 with.  In the first half of January Netflix only has Solo: A Star Wars Story (beginning on the 9th). The situation at Prime is a bit better with Leave No Trace (3rd), Beautiful Boy (4th), and Eighth Grade 13th) all available soon. In other words, now is a great time to hit the actual movie theaters and catch up on Oscar hopefuls since the streaming services won't help much. Nevertheless here's a perusal of 'new'  streaming options.

As is our practice we've frozen the films at utterly random moments without cheating (whatever comes up comes up) for this quick preview. Let's go...

Cast This: The Next Indiana Jones

We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that. - Steven Spielberg.

We already knew the next Indiana Jones would not be Shia Labeouf, Crystal Skull notwithstanding. Now Steven Spielberg has indicated it might be a woman. Harrison Ford will be back, one last time, for the 5th film in the hugely popular series. But after that we might get Joan Jones? Indiana Joan? Spielberg also seems not to know the difference between first and last names.

The 5th Indiana Jones, as yet untitled,  has been announced as Spielberg’s next directorial project. It will be shooting in the UK next year. Which means we have a lot of time to fantasy cast the female Indiana. Who would be your choice?

Today's 5: Slim Shady and Bruce Almighty (among others)

Have you seen the newest picture of Mera (Amber Heard) from Aquaman? There it is to your left. This is remarkably colorful -- Poison Ivy in Batman & Robin level saturation on the color wheel -- though they'll surely fiddle with the color in post (sigh) since we can't have bright things. (Speaking of DC -- with Wonder Woman getting good advance buzz, should we be hopeful about Aquaman now?)

Anyway, Amber Heard was on the brain as one of today's curated 'anniversaries to use as mood boosters'  today. Ready? Let's go...

May 23rd Anniversaries

2016 Amber Heard filed for divorce from Johnny Depp one year ago today.
