Team Experience: Happy, annoyed, and thirsty Emmy reactions

What's your favourite season, Catherine? We've already heard from Team Experience on the Emmy omissions that most pained them. Now that we've all had the opportunity to sleep on it, here are three final questions about the nominations for the 71st annual Emmys which will be held on.

1. Which Emmy nomination was your favourite?

2. Which Emmy nomination most confused / annoyed you?

3. What category is so sexy it made you quiver under your bodice?

Enjoy their brief answers and provide your own after the jump, won'cha...

Which Emmy nomination was your favourite?

CHRIS FEIL: Sian Clifford for Fleabag. With most folks predicting the also sensational Olivia Colman, I feared that the show might be more of a critical fave than an Emmy to earn multiple slots in one category. But I'm thrilled that Emmy agrees that Clifford's hilarious crisis is an essential ingredient to the show and an ultimately moving one as well. The way she throws away her monumental, restorative line "The only person I'd run through an airport for is you"? Perfection.

ABE FRIED-TANZER: Kumail Nanjiani for The Twilight Zone. The comedian perfectly encapsulates the tone of this anthology reboot and his nomination serves as the best summary of its balance of creepiness and wonder...

Beauty vs Beast: The Spy Who Stabbed Me

Jason Adams from MNPP here, continuing our little Pride Month run of LGBT-centric "Beauty vs Beast" contests -- we're turning our eyes towards the small screen this week for one of our favorite on-going queer series, Phoebe Waller-Bridge's fabulously twisted sapphic spy versus spy series Killing Eve. Deserving all of the awards we can violently fling at them in one corner we've got Sandra Oh as Eve, the hyper-capable but darksided intelligence officer, and in the other there's Jodie Comer as the psychopath but don't call her that Villanelle (god that name is so good), who's spotted a little something inside Eve she can't wait to dig her fingers around in.

PREVIOUSLY That low-cut tank-top on Brad Davis proved too tough for us to resist, tilting last week's Querelle poll perilously in his favor with a broad-chested 82% of the vote. I would shed a tear for Franco Nero but... he's Franco Nero, he's more than okay. Said FrenchToast:

"Team Brad Davis all the way! What a brilliant actor he was. Was it too much to ask for him to get Oscar nominated in 1979? I remember reading Genet's novel in high school and being mesmerized (and probably aroused) by his poetic writing. Even if Fassbinder's movie has its flaws, it's a daring and terrific adaptation."

Fleabag: Season 2

By Spencer Coile

Rather than beat around the bush, let me just come right out and say: Fleabag is a miraculous piece of television. Its first season, an adaptation of the stage production by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, debuted on Amazon Prime back in 2016. It followed the titular Fleabag (played by Waller-Bridge), a foul-mouthed, lying, sexually insatiable cafe owner in London coming to terms with her best friend’s death. With few friends, she’s prone to stealing, sleeping with assorted men, and antagonizing her family, including her godmother-turned-stepmother (Olivia Colman) - all the while breaking the fourth wall and speaking to us, her audience. It was an uncomfortable yet poignant six episode run, but Fleabag’s story wasn’t quite over.

Waller-Bridge, notable for her recent involvement with Killing Eve, is back for one final season with her plucky anti-hero. And rather than just be a continuation of the first season, Fleabag returns to Prime with a second season so stunning and so deeply personal, you may have no choice but to see it to believe it. So, rather than a review, let’s consider this a celebration of Fleabag...

Theater World Awards: Jeremy Pope, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Paddy Considine

Tis the season of theater awards. We've already covered the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Drama League, and Tony nominations. Now it's time for the Theater World Awards. Unlike the other theater prizes the Theater World Awards don't have nominations, just winners. Their purpose is honoring performers who made either Broadway or Off-Broadway debuts or delivered breakout performances during the theatrical season. Most of the names are new to us but you'll recognize a couple of stars from film and television among the possible future theater legends.

The thirteen performers who will be honored at their event are after the jump...

Killing Eve: Season One

By Spencer Coile

With the recent announcement of the Television Critics Association nominees, one show really rose above the competition: Killing Eve. With multiple nominations for the series itself as well as its two leading performances from Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, a second season renewal before the first episode even aired, and critical raves, the latest BBC series from Phoebe Waller-Bridge has become something of a phenomenon.

Killing Eve is about MI5 agent, Eve Polastri (Oh) becoming fixated on catching international assassin, Villanelle (Comer). Killing Eve explores the subjects commonly associated with spy thrillers -- mystery, intrigue, sex, death – but interestingly, it's all through the lens of two female leads. It's also surprisingly bold, enthralling, and hilarious...

Two Handfuls of Link

The Guardian Isabelle Huppert has really outdone herself with her answers in this new Q&A
Variety Roseanne cancelled at ABC after Roseanne couldn't help herself and went on yet another round of racist remarks. Still, that's quite a move by ABC given the success and profitability of the show (and their past indifference to her statements). Corporations aren't really known for not letting money do the loudest talking.
Variety interesting buiness related follow up: In the very recent upfronts ABC had basically built its whole Tuesday schedule around Roseanne as ratings savior. What will they do now?
Slate an oral history of The Muppets
Coming Soon Uma Thurman to star in Netflix's supernatural drama series Chambers. Let's hope she has better luck than Naomi Watts did with Gypsy.
Pajiba Let's talk about Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Solo)

Much more after the jump including Jake Shears new song, George Takei exonerated, Interview magazine, Mean Girls album, a Spawn reboot, and what to do when stars disappoint us...
