"Minari" leads the Dorian Award nominees but LGBT films underperform

by Nathaniel R

The Society for LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, to which I and a few of our writers here belong, have revealed their nominations for the film year with Ammonite, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, I Carry You With Me, Supernova, and Uncle Frank up for best LGBTQ Film though only one of them (Ma Rainey) secured any other nominations. Minari leads with the overall nominations with six and Nomadland is just behind with five.

"Mank" leads the Critics Choice Nominations

Mank and Minari led the 26th annual Critics Choice nominations with 12 and 10 nods respectively. The ceremony this year will be held on March 7th on the CW with Taye Diggs hosting (and if you missed the TV nominations, those came out a couple of weeks ago). Since there are so many nominees in each category (it's getting ridiculous in lead acting!) we'll be mostly talking about who was left out. That's the takeaway in each category when you keep expanding the number...

Team Experience SAG/Globe Reactions Pt 2: Happy Thoughts & Virtual Anticipation

In part one, we polled Team Experience about the darker side of the SAG and Globe nominations this week. For part two we'll lighten up with happy questions.

  • Which acting nomination most thrilled you?
  • What was your happiest non-acting moment during the nods?
  • Despite a rough week for them, which film or performer are you still hopeful about?
  • Whose home are you most eager to see in the virtual ceremonies to follow?

You know what to do! Read their answers and provide your own in the comments...

Congratulations to the SAG Cast Nominees... but please raise a glass to those who were left out!

by Nathaniel R

Taylour Paige and Dusan Brown aren't included in "Ma Rainey's" nomination

Each year when the SAG nominations for Outstanding Cast is named, we bemoan the rules which cause unneccessary exclusions. To be an official nominee you need to have your own title card. Having your own title card generally requires that you either already have a degree of fame, a strong agent if you don't, or a large role... so sometimes it excludes really crucial contributions to a movie. Everyone who doesn't get their own title card gets a certificate but they aren't officially "nominees" based on SAG's rules. This year, only Trial of the Chicago 7 (which has a giant cast) and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (which has a very intimate cast) have really unfortunate exclusions...
