Disney Upcoming World Domination -- Now with Release Dates

by Nathaniel R

After Disney's acquisition of Fox, the Mouse House stands to control an ungodly percentage of the movie business (40%... what is the number exactly?) Today they released their schedule for the next few years, albeit a vague one since many of the movies are untitled. Several things become clear despite the lack of specifics: First, Disney hopes to maintain the luster of Star Wars by abandoning the overselling we've seen these past few years (which have taken a noticeable toll with diminishing box office) and releasing one only every other year, alternating them with Avatar pictures. Meanwhile Disney Animation, Pixar, and Marvel Studios will basically maintain their current clips of two to three titles each per year.  The more distressing thing that appears to be the case if you look at this schedule is that Disney seems to be burning off the Fox properties but must have abandoned anything in the pipeline that isn't finished already save for animated features since they take so long to make and Steven Spielberg's West Side Story which starts filming very soon. Apparently the only reason Disney wanted Fox was for the Avatar franchise?

You can see the schedule after the jump...

It's time to play our favourite time wasting Instagram game (an elaborate excuse to share 10-12 fav celebrity social media posts of the week). So, WOULD YOU RATHER...

• do research on Elvis with Baz Luhrmann?
• take a hot ride with Zoe Saldana?
• test perfume mixes with Michelle Pfeiffer? (It's called "layering")
• sip on Shah Rukh Khan in Dubai?
• kiss a llama with Daryl Hannah?
• go plant shopping with Jake Choi?
• have lunch with Marvel's superwomen?
• count it down with Madonna & Meluma?
• get beautiful with Judy Greer?
• eat skittles with Carrie Preston?
• shower with Channing Tatum?

Pictures are after the jump to help you decide.

Review: Gugu Mbatha-Raw in "Fast Color"

by Abe Fried-Tanzer

When it comes to great actresses who haven’t become household names despite terrific performances, Gugu Mbatha-Raw is at the top of the list. In 2014, she was headlining Belle and Beyond the Lights, both to much acclaim. I’ve been a fan of hers since the 2010 NBC series Undercovers, a quickly-axed show that I’m pretty sure only I liked. Shortly after it was cancelled, she had a role in the Tom Hanks-Julia Roberts comedy Larry Crowne and it looked like her career might really be taking off. After supporting parts in projects as diverse as Miss Sloane and A Wrinkle in Time, she’s now taking the lead role in a superhero movie, which Chris first reported on more than two years ago.

As 90% of movie theater audiences hold their breath waiting for the 181 minute Avengers: Endgame to be released, this is something completely different...

Disney+ for those who can't get enough franchise!

by Nathaniel R

Disney, the corporation that will one day have a complete monopoly of the entertainment business, made lots of Disney+ announcements this week. Gizmodo has the details on how much their streaming service will be like Netflix. If you haven't been playing along they've announced at least eight scripted episodic streaming series thus far though we don't really know how far these are from being realities but for the first one...

Black Widow's Support

"Get me the best supporting cast possible!"To be honest we never thought a solo Black Widow movie was going to happen but the success of Black Panther and Captain Marvel has definitely convinced Marvel Studios that the future is with diversity (It took them long enough and will be embarassing forever that they couldn't be bothered to risk a female superhero until after DC proved the 'no-duh' appeal of female leads via Wonder Woman). Regardless of their motivations and sluggishness the Black Widow standalone is definitely on the fast-track now with new casting announcements.

So far we've got the always reliable David Harbour (thank god that Stranger Things woke people up to his talent!), the fast-rising Florence Pugh (so excellent in Lady Macbeth two years back and currently headlining Fighting With My Family), and there are rumors that Rachel Weisz is also coming on board. The cast sounds very promising...
