Q&A: The Force is With Reader Questions

by Nathaniel R

I got a little verbosely carried away whilst answering reader questions so you get two Q & A columns from your last batch of questions. Thanks for playing. This week I asked for a few Star Wars Questions but that's just three of the six questions answered here. Ready, let's go!

TROY: Within the past year Cynthia Erivo has won a Tony, Grammy, and Daytime Emmy for her work in the recent Broadway revival of The Color Purple, making her only one step away from completing the EGOT. Which type of project do you think would giver her her best chance at winning an Oscar?

NATHANIEL: I hate to get nitpicky but technically should Daytime Emmys even count with the EGOT? If you count any old Emmy as towards the EGOT than about 100,000 people you've never heard of who have local Emmies (seriously they give those statues out like candy) are 1/4th of the way to that showbiz goal. It's only Whoopi Goldberg, Robert Lopez, and their fans that would argue that Daytime Emmys count. No shade!

Anyway my dream for Erivo is that they give her either the film version of The Color Purple musical, though I fear they'd just hand it to a bigger less worthy star (like, oh, Jennifer Hudson, who she and Danielle Brooks, the other Tony nominee from that show, both ran circles around onstage) or a film version of Caroline or Change (if they won't rehire the incredible Tonya Pinkins) as those two roles are powerhouse vehicles for a black woman with giant pipes. But any musical role would be dreamy. That voice!

PEDRO: What is your favorite Star Wars character? And your favorite Star Wars actor?

Would you rather...?

@madonna I ❤️you. No other caption needed

A post shared by Sarah Paulson (@mssarahcatharinepaulson) on May 2, 2017 at 11:48am PDT

I can't ask a 'would you rather' with Sarah Paulson spotting Madonna at the Met Gala as an option because it would win in a landslide. Obviously anyone in their right mind would choose that.

So you get a second option.

Would you rather:

...eat a watermelon with Lindsay Lohan?
...have a wrap party with Daniel Wu?
...hang out in Uma Thurman's trailer?
...paint on/with (?) Ronnie Kroell?
...recover from jet lag with Alan Cumming?
... "walk" dogs with Doona Bae?
... or museum it with Gabby Sidibe?

PICTURES AFTER THE JUMP TO HELP YOU DECIDE.

Drag Race S937: Madonna & 'Snatch Game' Do-Overs

Nathaniel R stepping in for Chris Feil, our usual lipsynch queen, who has the weekend off which gives yours truly a chance to funk with his "current rankings" in Drag Race's 9th season. [Insert evil cackle here].

I didn't know when I offered to sub that I'd be paired with the do-over of the Madonna runway. Since Madonna is my all time favorite celeb and the last episode devoted to the Queen was arguably Drag Race's most embarrassing (how could they allow their entire cast to act like the big M had only ever come up with 4 looks when she popularized giving yourself a makeover every single damn time you showed up to werq? [You can't see me but I'm stroking the chip on my shoulder. Shhhhh baby. There, he quiet now.]

No mini-challenge and no Pit crew again? May I suggest a mini-challenge...

A Madonna Biopic is in the Works!

Chris here with some news to have you clutching your layered pearls. And stacked bracelets. And lace. That's right, a Madonna biopic is now in development at Universal. Whether you like it or not, get ready for Blonde Ambition.

Now before we cry foul or "too soon", the film sounds like less of a traditional biopic and more of a moment in time for the legend. Elyse Hollander's script topped last year's Black List (Hollywood's annual list of best unproduced screenplays) and follows the making of Madonna's first self-titled album. This would set the film in the early eighties before "Like A Virgin" skyrocketed her profile, but still in the era of "Lucky Star", "Borderline", and "Holiday". What will it be like to see club scene Madonna on the screen rather than the megastar? Will something like Truth or Dare have stylistic influence?

Word's out on what Madonna herself thinks about the film, but rest assured we will hear from her eventually. The film will be Hollander's first full length screenplay, and no director is attached as this is still in the earliest stages. But that doesn't stop us from speculating on who might be worthy of filling the role! My vote (even if she's a tad young currently): Elle Fanning. Are you excited at the prospect of a Madonna movie? Who do you think should play the role?
