Happy Monday Open Thread

Left to Right: Chris Feil, Murtada Elfadl, Nathaniel R, Jose Solis

The Film Experience is mostly an online party, but on very rare occasions small portions of us have the opportunity to see each other off line. So from this brief weekend get together... happy Monday to all of you!

WHAT'S ON YOUR CINEMATIC MIND?

See, I Listen to You.

Those times I ask you "what's on your cinematic mind?" are not just filler. I really do listen. Sometimes it inspires articles and other times I take direct requests. Thanks, for example, to Kris who pointed out that I needed to update the Review page. The funny thing is I thought I had because earlier in the year I'd been updating daily. But I was three months behind --eeep! -- and now I see the films I never got around to reviewing. Now the page is fresh again with all recent reviews notated and the list of everything screened thus far. Take a look if you think you missed something.

Pssst I'm seeing The Beguiled this Monday and couldn't be more eager.

I'm wishing... (I'm wishing)... 🎶

Someday our funds will come...Hello dear readers!

Today is your host's birthday (c'est moi, Nathaniel R) and I want to thank my team for filling in for me while I was on a wee vacation --special thanks to Chris Feil who has been a superstar since joining the team and really jumped in daily in my absence. In case you don't follow me on twitter or instagram, I was away at Disney World, a birthday treat from my bestie.

I'm not quite back up to speed from the trip so I shall return in the morning with a jampacked Wednesday through Friday of blogging for y'all since I know you haven't heard from me in a bit. I'll answer reader questions, return to Pfandom retrospective, oh and also BEST SHOT - PARENT TRAP (tomorrow night - pushed back 24 hours so you still have time to join us!), and more.

Since it's my birthday, I'm allowed to do a wee bit of fundraising. I did some wishing at Snow White's well while I was away and if she can survive a coma, get a Prince Charming, and a whole kingdom, and a whole new set of miniature friends, surely The Film Experience can continue strong another year with your support!

C O N S I D E R

Becoming a patron saint of the site by setting up a monthly donation!
Whether you love the Oscar coverage, actress-obsessing, theme weeks, retrospectives, random silliness, or any of our goodies show your love. There are two ways to donate, subscription (which is wonderful as its steady and something we can count on) or a one time donation. A huge sloppy wet kiss and thank you to the few handfuls of you who have already done this. $2.50 a month from multiple people really helps more than you'd think.

For those who can't commit to a dime a day, consider a one time donation...

"Hit Me With Your Best Shot" Returns !

"Hit Me With Your Best Shot" began its eighth season last week with Moonlight.  If you're new to the blog or haven't yet experimented with actually participating in the weekly series that is open to all, we guarantee a good time.

UP NEXT

Tues May 30th Wonder Woman (1976)
We're doing Season 1 Episodes 5/6 (two parter) "The Feminine Mystique" which is largely considered one of the best episodes of the series and is after the show perfected Diana's spinning costume change (which was rougher / incomplete in the first few episodes). Plus this one features Debra Winger as "Wonder Girl", only her second role ! [Amazon  (per episode or season) | iTunes (full season) ]

Tues June 6th Parent Trap (1961)
For my birthday and to honor all the Geminis among you, my favorite childhood movie starring Hayley Mills and Hayley Mills! [Amazon | iTunes | Netflix ]

HOW TO PLAY?

  1. Watch the assigned movie over the weekend
  2. Post your single favorite shot from that movie any time on Tuesday (i.e. what you deem "best" for whatever reason) on your blog/tumblr/youtube/instagram/twitter/pinterest whatever and tell us why you chose it!
  3. Let us know you've done so and we link up

Everything we've previously covered is after the jump...

March. That's a Wrap

The first quarter is done. Wheeee. We didn't escape the post-Oscar malaise that hits every year just after all that golden hoopla so we spent most of the month obsessing over Feud and Big Little Lies but hopefully we'll be roaring back to creative life in April. Here are a dozen highlights from March in case you missed any of them.

Grease 2 (1982) random thoughts on a bad movie we love
RuPaul's Drag Race goes Gaga
Three Billboards Frances McDormand slays in the trailer
The Glass Menagerie the classic reinvented, new Broadway run
Animated Tease will it be a rough year for Animated Features?
Interview: Melissa Leo on playing 'the most hated woman'

Beauty & The Beast (1991) ranking the songs
Buffy's 20th Manuel's instagram project
Three Fittings: The Pirate (1948) a hallucinatory musical
Interview: Celine Sciamma on her rich coming-of-age screenplays
The Furniture: The Love Witch (2016) a cohesive vision
Barry Jenkins his follow up project to Moonlight

Coming in April: Nathaniel and Jason at Tribeca Film Festival, Anne-Marie returns via the TCM festival, revisits to Ladyhawke (1985), Tom Jones (1963), Election (1999), and Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte (1964). Plus Feud's conclusion, Celeste Holm Centennial, The Fate of the Furious, Free Fire, Smackdown news (once we nail juries down), Pedro Almódovar, Barbra Streisand's 75th, and a special mini-series on rising young actors (as a brief break from always focusing on actresses).
