Drag Race S10E9

by Nathaniel R

A very very quick runthrough this week as we were busy with Cannes mania and Drag Race basically tread water with no one drowning this week. The episode peaked early with a mini-challenge involving a supersized Pit Crew and lots of ass. RuPaul was right when she suggested it should be its own spin-off. In this matching underwear game, Aquaria proved the most adept at remembering butts. Hmmmm...

Cannes Closing Ceremony - the Palme to "Shoplifters"

by Nathaniel R

The 71st edition of Cannes has ended. The closing ceremony started all fiery with Asia Argento reminding the audience that she was raped at the festival and Harvey Weinstein used to use Cannes as his "hunting ground" but after that impassioned speech, this settled quickly into the usual Closing Ceremony format of jury introductions, and strange presentation of awards in which "presenters" don't actually do the presenting but then turn to Madame President (in this case Cate Blanchett in a dress with a bow the size of her entire body on its back) to read out the winners.

Many of these titles will go on to further glories at other festivals and hopefully in theatrical release in the US and some will definitely be Oscar foreign language film submissions. But even if this is the end of their awards run, winning prizes at Cannes remains a very big deal...

Beauty Break: The Men of Cannes

Vasilli Schneider & Niels Schneider

Remember French-Canadian Niels Schneider, the object of affection for both the male and female leads of Xavier Dolan's Heartbeats? Apparently he's but one of 4 (!) Schneider brothers -- there was a 5th who died very young :( -- who all appear to be in showbiz: actor/models/musicians whatnot. And here's Vasilli and Niels together at the premiere of Knife + Heart at Cannes.

In our enthusiastic relentlessness about actresses we invariably ignore actors so before the final ceremony let's not let Cannes end without a visual tribute to the best snacks at Cannes...
