ICYMI - Nathaniel's Final Predictions

This is who I'm rooting for regardless of whether or not they have a chance in hell to win...

PICTURE Mad Max: Fury Road (ru Room)

ACTOR Michael Fassbender (ru Matt Damon... though I promise to be happy for Leonardo DiCaprio if he looks like he's enjoying himself because that's such a rarity and he has had a stellar career)
ACTRESS Cate Blanchett (ru Charlotte Rampling... but I ♥️Brie so I'll be thrilled for her. Can't wait to see how she follows Room up)
SUPPORTING ACTOR Sylvester Stallone (ru Mark Rylance)

I want to abstain from Uni tomorrow, but I can't. This will be the first time I haven't seen the telecast live since 2008. It's killing me you guys. Killing me.

When I was in Australia I could watch at a sensible hour!

As a teacher I can't really take the next day off (Though I used to!)

So I've got my valium and glass of wine ready for around 4pm! Alarm set for 1am!

Then straight to school after!

Ugh I love the Oscars but I'm so grateful when they're done each year!

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAdam Lewis

Ez: Don't abstain from Uni, but watch the Oscars anyway! You'll recover, and with no regrets!

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterEdward L.

I'm from Australia and have University, so I won't be able to watch live. However, we are having an internet/news block out so that myself and some other students can enjoy watching the ceremony when we get home! This is probably going to be difficult though seeing as I'm a student at NIDA in Sydney and some of our alumni are nominees...

Pulling for Mad Max love in Editing, Sound & Production Design, Sandy Powell for Costumes and Ex Machina & Carol for everything.

I have lowered my sights. I am hoping that Mad Max scores as many Oscars as possible, quantity is a victory of sorts. Winners for Mad Max give the best & wittiest speeches. Rachel McAdams & Saoirse Ronan wear killer dresses.
And Kate Winslet wins.

In my alternate universe:

Room or Mad Max win BP.

I am down with Brie Larson winning, but she actually ties w/ Saiorse Ronan–super cool.

Mad Max beats The Revenant for all the tech awards (this could actually happen)

The World of Tomorrow and/or We Can't Live Without Cosmos win animated short–or tie, they're both so good.

The telecast itself is smooth and funny and not overlong; #Oscarsowhite is addressed with wit and eloquence but does not dominate the entire show or become super squirmy, sour & uncomfortable. And things improve markedly next year (and in years to come).

Rob -- i am so down with all of this.

Missed one category: Animated Feature. Then again, it's not hard to predict what your choice is. I believe it's the only category everyone has been unanimously supporting the same nominee: Inside Out.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPJ

I think there is an upset in the supporting categories.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered Commentermark

Do you think Kate's practicing her breathless acceptance speech.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered Commentermark

I want Chris Rock to have a great show hosting andfor neither The Revenant or The Big Short win best picture.

That's all I'm hoping for really.

PICTURE 1 Bridge 2 Brooklyn 3 MMFR 4 Martian (I think I'm the only person who likes Bridge of Spies best)
DIRECTOR Miller
ACTING Fassy/Saoirse/Rylance/Winslet
SCREENPLAY Inside Out/Brooklyn
CINEMATOGRAPHY MMFR (ru Sicario or Carol)
PRODUCTION DESIGN/EDITING/COSTUME/MAKEUP/SOUND CATEGORIES MMFR
VISUAL FX Ex Machina (ru MMFR)
ORIGINAL SCORE Sicario (ru Carol)
ORIGINAL SONG Gaga (even though I despise the movie and the song's bad, I want Gaga to win an Oscar)
DOCUMENTARY What Happened, Miss Simone?

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

I will be SOOOOOOOOO happy if one of the following happens:

1. "Room" upsets "Big Short" in Adapted.
2. George Miller upsets Inarittu.
3. "The Look of Silence" wins Best Documentary.
4. "Mad Max" wins a shit-ton of awards.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterIrvin

I am hoping that they secretly allowed write-in votes and Alicia Vikander and Rooney Mara tie in Best LEAD Actress.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJohn T

It's funny how all of the commercials for the Oscars telecast have been saying "The most unpredictable Oscars EVER!" when I feel the complete opposite. I haven't been this unenthused for an Oscars in quite a while.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSean Diego

But my biggest hopes are for Saoirse to pull an upset in Best Actress and literally ANYONE else to win Original Song over Gaga/Warren. I won't be able to stomach that pandering narcissist accepting an Oscar.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSean Diego

I am so torn over Supporting Actress, because Rooney Mara deserves everything for Carol, but I hate category fraud.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDeborah Lipp

When I walk out of rehearsal tonight, I want to look at my phone and see a photo of Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet holding Oscars.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

I'm rooting for The Big Short but I suspect The Revenant is Too Big To Fail.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterHustler

There are always those who are "so over" Oscars this year, "they're so predictable," etc., but that's the curse you live with when you track them ALL YEAR. Suck it up and enjoy the show! I'm excited for Chris Rock to show the white folks how it's done.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBD

Foreign Film and Animated Feature ain't here!

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNick Davis

I'm just happy Eddie Redmayne won.... WORST SUPPORTING ACTOR! That will teach him to stop acting like a bitch.

February 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSteven

Nick -- FIXED. thanks

February 28, 2016 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

I'm absolutely not excited about this year's edition even if i'll watch the show. Here in France it starts at 2am but i just love it and can't help but watch.

I won't be thrilled when Leo will get his Oscar because he just doesn't deserve it this year. But the only thing that could make my night more exciting would by a second statue for Kate Winslet !!! I really didn't like The Danish Girl and would have prefer to see Vikander nominated for Ex Machina.

No offense to Brie Larson but her multiple wins just ruined the excitement for me so an upset by the lovely Saoirse Ronan or the amazing Cate Blanchett would make me jump of happiness.

Finally, where is Marion Cotillard for Macbeth ? She was totally overlooked (even right here!) for all the season when she gives one of the best performances of her career. . .
